Those tubes get blocked sometimes right John?

bluegal's picture

Yeah it's fixed whether John or I got there first? Only the tubes know for sure and they ain't talkin'.

We're talking about who, Ted Stevens? The guy who thinks that the internet is a series of tubes. He lives in a *vacuum*. :-) (that joke for all the techies out there)

There's more David Gilmour at this link than you can shake a stick at....

Just the first time I could think of something to say besides Frist!

Everytime I read the news
I'm always more confused
Tellin' me to choose
But there's only lies to choose from
And how many died today
How many lost their homes or shot a gun
Or a loved one
What happened to our sons?

Yell Fire! was one of the best albums of the year. It's inspiring to know that there are musicians out there using their powers for good.....

Thanks for playing this video.

I saw on tv once where horses get sent through them sometimes. Must be true.

Great music! Thanks! I'd never heard of this group. I learn so much on the internets ...

Gonz, you might wanna download the high quality mp4 of him playing Marooned on the #001 Strat then. Just go here and click download. Darn pleasant little goodie to have on yer hard drive for when you want to tear your hair out.

Another video from the same group Time to go home. Not really the sort of music I'd normally listen. Sort of ska / reggae (?). But can get behind the lyrics.

A true revolutionary in a realm of fake musicians looking for their big payday. From his lyrics to his live shows, which are inspiring and awesome, the man is so necessary in these times. Maybe I have a man-crush, but I'm counting the days til I see him again in Jacksonville...

I couldn't believe I heard this Bob Mould song in a major bank commercial:

I thought Bob Mould and Sugar we're only making music just for me.

Yes, it's very nice to listen to a man with heart and brains and talent and courage. Definitely a good thing.

Just saw Michael and the crew in Golden Gate park today at the Power to the Peaceful concert with the Indigo Girls. And Amy Goodman on deck. Good times and great crowd. Thanks for getting the word out with smart sounds.

I had always heard that as "World Goes 'Round In Circles", but indeed it's "will it". ThanX for correcting my interpretation of that song.

And he was.

Making music just for you, that is. I'm of mixed emotions on this kinda co-opting. It does seem a bit disconnecting, but, hey, everyone wants to live comfortably, and Mould, whether with Husker Du or Sugar, didn't earn a lot - though he should have!- when those bands were recordin'.

Hell, I saw Husker Du once, fer under $10, I'm pretty sure, and I saw Sugar and it cost me maybe $15. And both shows were in comfortable, smaller venues. In the same era Stones tickets ran about $35 and up- and those shows were in stadiums!

So cut Bob a little slack, but throw shit at the TV when ya here Midnight Rambler bein' used to pimp Taco Bell's all-night drive-thru.

I love Bob, I've seen Sugar live in Austin...its like swimming in beautiful distortion. Actually I was happy to hear that song on the television - Workbook is one my favorites of all time. I thought someone very cool at the marketing agency made a good move.

How about "Oh My God" by Michael Franti and Spearhead. The first time I heard that song I was hooked. Sadly, no video, but here's an acoustic version with a still photograph. And talk about appropriate for today...

Thanks for posting the Spearhead video. I'm a huge fan, been following Michael since the early 90's in San Francisco. He is one of the great song writers of our generation. And a super person to boot, very approachable and kind soul. I've met him on several occasions and there is always a smile and hug to greet you. If you aren't familiar with them, check out Home, Chocolate Super Highway, Songs from the front porch for starters. But really their best music is live.
His documentary is beautiful, funny, and sad. A must see, he truly has a gift with connecting with people.

I vote "Michael Franti for Secretary of State". We'd be a hell of alot better off if that were the case.

> Them

I keep waiting to find video of Them with Peter Bardens on the organ. (my understanding is that he toured with a later version of Them, but never got on a record with Them) I guess it's just not available.

Global H's picture

I remember Franti from back in the day when he was with Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - people who like his politics but who think his music here lacks oomph might want to check out the album Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury, which fuses those politics with hip hop beats and industrial sounds (as well as jazz guitar from Charlie Hunter)....still a great album even after all these years. And for those who want it even more raw, there's his previous band The Beatnigs.

This new album is a bit musically mainstream but it did grow on me.

Indeed Peter Green and Mick Fleetwood were in Peter B's Shotgun Express (along with Rod Stewart.) Peter's days with Van Morrison began with Them, but that was before the Peter B's. I do believe that his relationship with Morrison did extend beyond the Them days though. Wasn't he also on Van's Moondance album? I wonder how much that had to do with the titling of Camel's MoonMadness album.

Found him on RadioParadise, saw him at Bonnaroo.

Bonnaroo was my first chance to see him and it was amazing. I've never seen an artist leap off the stage (2 or 3 times) and charge through the crowd, never missing a lyric or a beat, security trying to keep up. He had 20-30,000 people in the palm of his hand...

I picked up his documentary DVD at an independent store in Virginia a year back. I was looking for some Spearhead or Heroes CDs, but this is a most welcome addition to my movie collection as well.

Franti has always brought a clear and heartfelt voice to the interviews I've seen him in on Democracy Now!, and this DVD shows that in spades. He is an incredibly brave and caring person to put himself out there as an artist, doing what artists should be doing, reaching people, putting themselves into new situations and building bridges.

I also highly recommend this DVD and "Control Room" as ways to see some of the real people in Iraq and the Middle East, instead of the talking heads in US studios or the Green Zone.
