C&L's Late Nite Music Club with the Flaming Lips

Tomorrow our Blue America candidate is an extraordinary state senator from Oklahoma, Andrew Rice, a seminary school graduate who is firmly anchored in basic progressive values and principles. And he's taking on one of the most reactionary maniacs in the entire U.S. Senate, Jim "No Such Thing As Global Warming" Inhofe. Make your way over to Firedoglake tomorrow at 1pm Central Time (11am here on the West Coast) and get involved with the live chat between Andrew and members of the Blue America Community. You can also contribute to his campaign on our Blue America page.

We asked him what his favorite music is and he told us he's always singing Woody Guthrie's "Oklahoma Hills" to his kids but that among contemporary bands, he's got some constituents he's very gung-ho over: the Flaming Lips. In fact here's a live version of "She Don't Use Jelly" recorded right there in Oklahoma City.

Scandal Brewing at Oral Roberts U.

http://channels.isp.netscape.com/news/story.jsp?flok=FF-APO-1110&idq=/ff...

Richard Roberts is accused of illegal involvement in a local political campaign and lavish spending at donors' expense, including numerous home remodeling projects, use of the university jet for his daughter's senior trip to the Bahamas, and a red Mercedes convertible and a Lexus SUV for his wife, Lindsay.

She is accused of dropping tens of thousands of dollars on clothes, awarding nonacademic scholarships to friends of her children and sending scores of text messages on university-issued cell phones to people described in the lawsuit as ``underage males.''

I do not even know what to say except, tisk tisk tisk LOL

Ya, terrific!
It rivals the 5th, not to mention the 3rd.
Gawd, have we come a long way!

Actually, it made me want to go to sleep and never wake up.
But maybe that's just me...

Do you realize this is a better song?

I had no idea. Vaseline on toast? Blowing your nose in magazines? I had to stop. Inhofe is more terrifying than this song, but....

Oh, whew, thanks, xoites....

Me and my girlfriend played "Yoshimi Battles the Robots" (not sure this is the exact name of the album, thanks to Dale's Scottish Style Ale) while she was in labor. It was very soothing... "Do You Realize" is one of the most poignant songs ever laid down. Do you realize that everyone you know someday will die?

thar ye goe.....gittin ull Bowie....ok I'll go there

My life revolves around music. As a child it was The Who not the Beatles or Stones. As a teen it was Frank Zappa and no one else. In college the Clash and later the Dead Kennedy's made do. Then a gap. No good bands. Found Clouds Taste Metallic and have been hooked ever since.

Yes, FL is bubble gum but, other than Jello Biafra, Wayne Coyne appears to be the only rock star to have been fighting the war against the War in Iraq from the onset although thankfully, Springsteen is finally catching on.

Where was Billy Joe? Where was Tom Morello? Where was Fat Mike? Where was Henry Rollins?

Nowhere, that's where.

The Lips kick ass and War Pigs remix is a fitting reprise for all things Bush.

I understand that the Framing Rips never hit it big in Japan, namely because they couldn't pronounce the band's name.

Thanks for finally putting something from this great band on the site. A beautiful, melodic, 'British' syle song (yes, I am a Brit!)
Their 'The Soft Bulletin' album is one of the best pop/rock albums of all time of course.

This is dedicated to the "White Limbaugh" (tm) and his Syncophants, Little Jack Melody with his Young Turks: Lock Up Your Daughters -

I've had one of their albums for years. One of the best cuts was God Walks Among us Now. Sounds real religious, until you listen to the thrashed out music.
