What a great blend of voices and talent :)
Yeah. Good stuff. Gloria!
Patti Smith Gloria
Grrrrr...
My girlfriend, in Woodside, CA, Mom, that's right, her Mom, was great friends with John Lee Hooker, (as well as Van Morrison, and my gf's gymast teachers knew Neil Young, but those are all other stories for another time), and she knew that I wanted meet him, but then that stupid Rolling Stone article came out right before he died, in which Hooker was in bed with a 19 year old hottie and enjoying himself immensely, so that scotched that deal.
Like I said....
Grrrrrr....
But thanks for posting this, I don't think that there's such a thing as a bad version of this song.

They had to do this twice. The first time, Van ad libbed, "What's her name?" John didn't get it and said, "Mary Lou."
these old cats do it right.. yeah and Patti Smith too!
Continuing the theme of christmas, one song a day, here's another lovely gem ;)
"Little Drummer Boy", David Bowie and Bing Crosby

Thanks!
Crazy how young she looks in that clip.
Sam Shepard was a very lucky man.
One of the coolest moments of this rotten year of 2007, was about 2 months before Imus got kicked off the air, when Patti Smith got inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at the Waldorf Hotel on Park Avenue in New York City, and while she didn't play Gloria, she did close her set with the song of hers that was her dead Mom's favorite to vacuum to, and the one that Oliver Stone used on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack, making me ping-pong, pinball, and pogo all around my place out of the sheer punk rock shock of the balls of it, and the really neat thing the very next person to take the stage was....
The Right And Reverend Al Sharpton.
And he didn't say so much as Boo! to her about it.
I think that she, Quentin Tarantino, and maybe one or two other white people are the only ones that have gotten a pass for doing that.
Neither Eminem nor Mark Twain did, I know that.

The Doors: GLORIA
Thanks to whoever put this on...I loved it. I'm remember when GLORIA came out,and at first I thought it was Mick Jagger singing it...lol. What a voice Van has...still.

Thank you, you were about to give me a coronary, there's only so much musical goodness a man can take before he hits sensory overload.
Not quite what happened to my buddy in the early 1970s when he lived at the Sandstone Colony at Malibu, with his wife, but it's close enough to get me breathing heavy and wanna go lie down and take a long and well deserved nap.
:P

God DAMN, that was good
now that was a 4-minute bliss.
Molto grazie!
It's amazing how well JLH sounded and fit with a wide range of styles, w/o loosing his own legendary style.

...Will it be subtle or bold or smooth or fat? The answer comes in another one of the album's peaks; track numero six. It is entitled “Sure Thing” which contains elements from “Harry's Philosophy” (Miles Davis and John Lee Hooker) and layers a cool bluesy swirl atop the voice of John Lee Hooker. This cascading groove extends into the momentous dub and techno loops of “Pont Des Arts” and you begin to hope that the tour never ends. http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=2342

Praise be the late great Mr. Lucky
WOW!!
I believe that this show was at the Universal Ampitheatre at Universal Studios, California, (now called the Gibson Ampitheatre), and it was one helluva night. John Lee Hooker's "Jesse James" was a definite highlight.
GREAT version of this classic song. Thanks!
"Let that boy boogie woogie. It's in him, and it's got to come out."
I'm not one to flutter an eye lid at mucisians who sell out their music to commercials. Yet lately it is turning right round. I saw this commercial and flailed around the net to grab it,find out what this group it is and then plot for the DJing at my x-mas fling. It's Niiiiiiiiice. Wouldn't have cared for D&G on principle until now. Nice marketing D&G..Makes me want to know your password and cut that line promptly.

The Streets - Blinded by the lights
Like Mick Jones of Foreigner taught me, leave them wanting more.
I want to know what love is.
Wow! His own classic tooled to perfection.
That comb-over is outrageous! Is Van attempting to hide an unsightly mole on top?
Reminds me of Bill Murray in King Pins.

# 4 if you're seeing this, who are you referring to in Woodside, I too was a very good friend of John Lee's, in fact I worked for him for awhile. He always had a young hottie laying up in his bed watching football.......He was a mac daddy big time. I miss him. and the above video is one of the best
Van the Man live at the Ryman. There stands the glass.

OK, I'm going to make an ass of myself here. But for Van I'm more than willing. Been a fan since forever, own every CD, lots of boots, see him whenever he's in town. Never heard him referred to as "The Bee". Little help here? I feel like such a poser.
Van reclaiming one of his hundreds of brilliant creations.

John Lee Hooker is my favorite musician of all time.
She's as sweet as tupelo honey, just like honey baby from the bee.
so many great songs ,
from Van , Gloria is , and was , still one of the greats , oh and I remember the kiss from a brown skin girl named Gloria in the 60's , yea she had braces and was ever so cute .
Damn, having a living legend sing one of my songs. My feet wouldn't be touching the stage.
