Late Night Music Club with Paul Simon
In 1997 Paul Simon was way ahead of the national conversation when he wrote The Capeman. It didn't work that well as a Broadway show but many of the songs are stupendous and, as he tends to like it, very thought-provoking. "Trailways Bus" is one of my favorite Paul Simon songs and Sara Ramirez makes a really nice addition.

sorry about the double post........must've been me.
I love Paul Simon's music but I think this album was awful.
Being a big fan of Paul (and Art back in the day), I had to get Capeman. It sounded intriguing and Paul always manages to change up musically and be just a bit ahead of the curve. My first, second and third listen to this was not that satisfying. A little wierd for me; the subject as well as some of the musical conventions used. But by the 4th time and ever since....this is one of my favorites. I don't know, it was sad and dark and exciting and hopeful all at the same time. (I also liked Mark Anthony on vocals. This was way before he started doing that "baby girl" crap.)
No Lafin, have at it.check out the one I posted with Hugh Masekela....awesome.

Headman Msongelwa Shabalala (October 10, 1945 - December 10, 1991) was a member of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a South African choral group founded and still led by his brother Joseph.

i'm fanatically in love with Paul Simon. Have been for over 15 years.
Thanks for posting this.
This is truly an amazing song. I was especially impressed by the South African guitar rhythm folding seamlessly into the Spanish guitar and coronet. Truly a beautiful and thought-provoking song.

Having been a fan of Paul Simon since the 60's and had the pleasure of seeing him in person a dozen times or so, I would urge anyone who loves great live music to see him--you will not be disappointed.
To me the test of a great musician is if he/she is as good live as they are on their recordings. PAUL SIMON NEVER DISAPPOINTS.
The guy has more talent in his little finger than most have in their whole geneology.

I don't think Paul felt sorry at the time. He married her.
I got to see Capeman in December of 1997 when it was in its "preview". I thought it was the best Broadway play I had ever seen. I loved the music, the story was strong and the staging was innovative. The scene where capeman is talking to his girlfriend on the fire escape in Hells Kitchen was amazing. I was completely shocked when it was dumped after one of the shortest runs in history for a major production.
oh well, I will remember it fondly as one of my favorite broadway experiences.
Perhaps the fact that I am a huge fan of Paul Simon clouded my view... My first record album was Parsley, Sage Rosemary and Tyme... and when I was 12 in 1972 my record collection was all the Simon and Garfunkel albums plus about 4 other albums by other people.

Simon And Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair lyrics
Get Scarborough Fair
Are you goin' to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine.
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt (On the side of a hill in the deep forest green).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme (Tracing a sparrow on snow-crested ground).
Without no seams nor needlework (Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain).
Then she'll be a true love of mine (Sleeps unaware of the clarion call).
Tell her to find me an acre of land (On the side of a hill, a sprinkling of leaves).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme (Washes the grave with silvery tears).
Between salt water and the sea strands (A soldier cleans and polishes a gun).
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell her to reap it in a sickle of leather (War bellows, blazing in scarlet battalions).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme (Generals order their soldiers to kill).
And gather it all in a bunch of heather (And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten).
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there, she once was a true love of mine.
lyrics in ( ) are sung as background on the record and to my knowledge, never performed live!

The song Scarborough Fair dates back to late medieval times. And it's mainly remembered now for Art Garfunkel's singing.
