C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Moby
By Howie Klein Thursday Mar 20, 2008 10:00pm
Although Moby is signed to an English label and his musical career took off in the U.K., he's an all-American guy (born in Harlem), a great-great-great-great nephew of Herman Melville. If Play was his biggest success, the follow-up, 18, was daring in that it veered away from the electronic sound Moby was associated with and towards his more alternative rock roots. He recruited Azure Ray to work with him on "Great Escape," tonight's feature:

the video will be up momentarily.
Man, I've never first AND second on a thread before.
Damn, John, I might've been first, second AND third if you wouldn't have intervened.
Hey, is anyone else out there?
Going for double digits, I guess.
Number 8?
moby sucks.
OK, how 'bout 8 out of 10? How silly is this?
Pretty stupid, but I'm enjoying some adult beverages.
And enjoying March Madness ...
WTF?
Jeeeez.....
i love moby! thanks!
OK, so I'm totally being immature, but hey, it's fun and stupid....
Ahab would have a problem with this.
Let's go for 20!
Hey site monitors - is this just being totally stupid?

Oh c'mon, is anyone else out there? I'll stop.
Well something happened to my comment about hearing a Moby interview the other day from Austin, done by KEXP. Tough.. Here's some classic moby
Moby - Go
Moby is a fucking genius.
Moby - We Are All Made Of Stars
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 26:
Meaning he is incredibly intelligent about copulation?
Matt Hussein in Texas @ 19:
Mea culpa. Sorry.
Moby - Porcelain
Moby - Natural blues
Moby is about the only tecno guy I've really admired since Jean Michel Jarre. Since the sinuous cat lady keeps posting my favs faster than I can find them I'm gonna go all Monty Python: Now for something completely different. This is a band I'm really getting into, Slim Cessna's Auto Club. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMsJi9WzhX8
Matt Hussein in Texas @ 28:
Yes, he knows how to get a very inteligent erection.
I've moved on
BEASTIE BOYS
miss_kitty Hussein @ 34:
Hope you don't think my comment was a criticism Miss Kitty. You really did nail my favorite Moby tunes. Porcelain is one of my top ten.
I remember traveling to Paris on a nightbus from Jutland listening to this version in my headphones about six years ago. We had some mellow bud bought in that utupia known as Christiania.
Wondrous.
Moby - Whispering Wind
Oh, and Moby is a genius.
Peter G @ 35:
No. Not at all. This Anthology came up on Daily motion when I was searching Moby...
:)
Moby Video - "Why does my heart feel so bad?"
I did the thiang at the right time and worship Moby more than I can explain. Underground clubbing was our function-junction.
Moby-Go
Natural blues - Moby
Moby was in a hardcore band called Vatican Commandos and has been spotted at Youth of Today reunion shows as well.
For a reluctant cool guy pal...Nate--

I love these guys so much. My generation . When I went back to college I liked to study my boys, among others. It's a documentary in progress.
Here's Moby doing Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach for my Revolver."

From Moby's Web site:
today is the 5 year anniversary of the start of the war in iraq.
March 20, 2008
today is the 5 year anniversary of the start of the war in iraq.
4,000 u.s soldiers have died so far, 40,000 u.s soldiers have been
badly wounded, 90,000 iraqii's have died, and it's cost u.s taxpayers
close to one trillion dollars.
all for a war that was started on falsehoods, for we all know that iraq
had no wmd's and iraq had no role with al qaeda or in 9-11.
as former secretary of state and u.n ambassador madeline albright said recently, 'the war in iraq is the biggest foreign
policy disaster in the history of the united states.'
it's all such a shame, and my heart breaks for the soldiers, their families, and the iraqii's who've
had their lives torn apart by this pointless war.

hey i just started a music blog, please check it out if you're into electronic music and the like.
Moby! Love this song.
But it's not playing - I'm in buffering hell!

I miss the earth so much..
I miss my wife..
In fact it's cold as hell
And I think it's going to be a long, long time
I'm not the man they think I am at all
Oh no no no..
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise a kid
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them..
if you did
And all the science ..I don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
rocket man
rocket man
And I think it's going to be a long long time...
And I think it's going to be a long long time...
And I think it's going to be a long long time...
And I think it's going to be a long long time...
And I think it's going to be a long long time...
Howie--great pick and please try and do more Moby or atleast the music in that genre. :)

no moby, but howzabout some chemical bros. (let forever be) over at skippy?
Peter G @ 32:
check out the soundtrack for 'Run Lola Run' a German film, awesome music Believe
Moby is the Phil Collins of electronic music. Boring, generic - nothing musically adventurous at all. Every song is a generic 4/4 with chords that change on the measure. There is a TON of amazing electronic music being made today (Autechre,Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Ulrich Schnauss), I'm always surprised this asshat gets so much attention.
Evening Rain is another great song by Moby:

"Play" was one of those albums* that once I heard, I had to buy it. Some music grows on me, whereas other music grabs me. This was definitely a grabber. "18" was good, but it wasn't a grabber, perhaps because I already knew Moby by then.
*e.g.: Cibo Matto "Stereotype A", Massive Attack "Mezzanine", Gorillaz "Demon Days", Sufjan Stevens "Seven Swans". One of these albums is not like the others...
First discoverd MOBY through his soundtrack contributions to the great 1995 movie "HEAT" starring Robert Dinero and Al Pacino! Directed by Michael Mann.
MANN always has great movie scores,ie: Colateral,Last of the Mohicans,The Insider, etc.
A couple great cuts in the movie HEAT ! I think the last scene where DiNero dies , a song called GOD MOVING OVER THE WATERS, or something like that.
Chaeck out the movie... a moving,classic Cop/robber movie. A MASTERPIECE !!!
Sounds a lot like This Mortal Coil
More my speed

The Top 5 Bands in the History of the World
(in no particular order)
Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Yes, Led Zeppelin, and Rush
These bands are so good, and so prolific I have little time for anything else.
jpro @ 68:
don't forget the Stones,The Who,Traffic,Cream............oh and one of my fav's.......Annie Lennox,That woman can sing.
And I'd be remiss not to mention Motown.
I just recently discovered Motown, an authentically American music that didn't need the British to make it better. It stands on it's own.
jpro @ 68:
I agree with The Floyd and Zep...and later Beatles from White album. But the other two?, no so much. I'd place Carlos Santana & Hendrix in their place!
BTW, go get Gilmour's new solo CD.. ON AN ISLAND! It's sublime!
And Waters' 2004 concert DVD IN THE FLESH is excellent too !
(his AMUSED TO DEATH cd rivals THE WALL masterpiece)
Rush sucks.
They couldn't figure out if they were metal or prog and ended up to neither being any good.
Rush was never trying to be metal. I'd call them hard rock progressive. What made them good was their scholarly lyrics, the sophisticated drums of Peart, the jazzy bass of Lee, and the avante garde guitar syle of Lifeson.
Many of you do not get it. Just listen to Moby's remake of Mission To Burma's 'revolver'.....then you will......peace out.........
