C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed
By Howie Klein Friday Apr 25, 2008 10:00pmTwo of the Late Night Music Clubs favorite people got married-- Lou Reed and his long time partner, Laurie Anderson made it official in Colorado last month. Everyone here at C&L wishes them lots of happiness and love.
"Gentle Rain" was more of a demo Lou put together than a bona fide song. He put it together in the course of a morning when Reprise was coming up with a soundtrack to a Superman movie. But then a Batman movie came out and flopped so Warners shelved the Superman film. Meanwhile when a charity record asked for a Lou Reed song to benefit pre-school education, Lou and Laurie offered "Gentle Rain." It's pretty rare and, as far as I know, only available on Mary Had a Little Amp, which also features songs by R.E.M., Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, Moby, Madonna, Maroon 5, the Blue Man Group, etc.

Awesome. Two of my faves together forever.
The news of the marriage had me scanning youtube for Lori Anderson late last night.
This is the first I heard about Lou and Laurie making it official.
It's good. Like Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss.
the velvet underground were as good as the beatles, but barely recognized.

Yeah, but cool.
OMG I had no idea those two were partners. Love their work.
Congratulations to the happy couple.
Laurie Anderson handed me a key during her Berkeley show on the "Home of the Brave" tour. I still have it on my key ring. I wonder if I'll ever find out what it opens...

I can't stand those YouTube videos that just show you a vinyl record spinning around and around. Give me a fucking break - why would I want to watch that?
TM @ 19:
cuz lots of artists never made vids, and this is one of the few ways to still hear the music, as radio is now controlled by assholes
close your eyes and make your own pics
i once saw billy gibbons in the audience at a laurie anderson concert.
kinda surprised me at the time.
just mentioning that 'cos i got zz top on my ipod now (manic mechanic).

Never got into Laurie Anderson's stuff, but I could see her and Reed as a couple. Let love reign.
I always loved this song by Lou Reed.

Strangely enough Lou Reed does this song in a duet with Luciano Pavarotti

Just saw Lou last Saturday at the Electric Factory in Philly. What a great show. Laurie was on stage with him playing the electric violin. They just seem like such an awesome, creative couple.
One of my most memorable concert moments seeing Laurie Anderson doing Big Science. It was over 20 years ago, but it was truly awsome.
Best wishes to both of them!
Wow. Two giants. Neither of whom sings well.
Yet it works for me.
Saw Lou in Richmond last night....great show AND got him to sign my Velvets box...
Is Lou on an east coast swing? Doubt he'd make it to SoFla though.

Man, it's been nearly 20 years since I got rid of my last one.
And while it's cool to watch 'em spin, it's the ambient noise- the snaps, crackles and pops on those old 45s that I love!
TM- One more thing: It's called the Late Night Music Club! :D

Two great American artists have found their soul mates. My God, this is bringing out the romantic in me!
I have the original 5LP set of Laurie's United States. I love O Superman. It's a beautiful song.
As for Reed, he's a really amazing artist. I have all the VU albums and tons of his solo work.
I once had the answering machine message verse from Anderson's "O Superman" as the actual message on my own machine; I remember my friends getting a kick out of it.
laurie anderson - o superman - on skippy.
velvet underground - sunday morning - on skippy.

It really is amazing just how good both of them are, even though neither one is a great singer.
They are easily one of my favorite couples, and I am very happy to hear that they finally tied the knot.
It's like the inverse of Bjork marrying what's-his-name-the-gay-performance-artist-guy except so way cooler because they're both like totally uncompromising artists. And they're elderly. But still.
