Late Night Music Club with Cowboy Junkies

This snip of the Cowboy Junkies' "This Street, That Man, This Life" was what the creators of "Homicide: Life on the Street" chose to highlight the return of the mighty Frank Pembleton after he was leveled by a stroke. I always thought it was one of the finest match-ups of theme and song I have ever seen/heard on the teevee.

Too bad the whole song is not on youtube!

i also like the iguanas, "boom boom boom"

this show was great. the Pre-Wire.

Great choice. If you had asked me for the best match-up, I would have picked one from Homicide, as well: the Impressions' angelic "It's All Right" as they storm Georgia Mahoney's hideout.

Cowboy Junkies are great.

Homicide: Life on the Streets is great.

The clip was too short.

Another great match up was the instrumental at the end of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" and the Formula 1 Grand Prix TV show on BBC Sport in UK.

Andre Braugher is great.

One of my all time favorite songs from the Cowboy Junkies; 'Cause Cheap is How I Feel

that was so beautiful....and perfect.....( and I got a Baltimore fix too...and what a great show....)

USA TODAY

U.S. has Mandela on terrorist list

Another great matchup was in "You've Got Mail" and the Cranberries "Dreams"

Homicide was a great tv show, and that says a lot coming from me because I despise 99% of what is on TV. Andre Braugher is a terrific actor.

In AmeriKKKa, Jesus himself would be on the "terrorist" watch list

Homicide used music brilliantly; I discovered some great artists and songs through watching this excellent show.

Homicide: Life on the Street. One of the all time best tv dramas, wouldn't have a chance today with Idol, Dancing with the Stars and the other bullshit on now. All because there is no one left who can write or direct. Doing a drama is too expensive. Reality doesn't cost much, 90% of America would prostitute themselves to get their 15 minutes of fame.

What a great song!

Another great TV match-up was Talking Heads, "This must be the place (Naive Song)" with a Northern Exposure episode where Joel finds what his life might have been like if he'd stayed in NY.

The same episode used "not ready yet" by the Eels amazingly well.

John and I had the same thought: "Boom Boom Boom" for the "Homicide" episode about the detectives killing time on New Year's Eve. But after midnight, it was boom, boom, boom.

If all television shows were of this caliber, I would be willing to watch television again. Not from a stroke, but I know the feeling of looking up at stairs and wondering if I were going to make it all the way or not. Excellent clip. First-rate actor. Well done.

I don't remember this Homicide episode, but have always been moved by the episode in
which Frank suffered his stroke and they had the Cowboy Junkies song "Something More
Besides You" from their Lay It Down album.

Next time on the CLLN Music Club, could we see something from the late, great Townes van
Zandt, who was an influence on the Cowboy Junkies?

"the finest match-ups of theme and song I have ever seen/heard on the teevee."

For me, it's Sarah McLachlan singing "The Prayer of St. Francis" at the end of the last episode of season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Can't rewind that scene enough.

easily one of the most underrated groups for the last 20 years...if you have not, treat yourself to their 1st...trinity....
