Dude! You scooped me by hours...this was going on my bobblehead thread. Max and I had been emailing each other how disgusted we were by the coverage (some of my ranting ended up in John's Edwards thread yesterday).

I'm a huge Chet fan. This is excellent. Thanks.

I am oozing with love for you both, Nicole and Uncle Joe (who are you, Uncle Joe?!)

doh...sorry

i love these guys

didnt mean to scoop

Nice, nice tune.

a little after chet's time, but how about some wynton marsalis over at skippy?

seeing an early pix of Chet and then seeing the savagely wasted image
of him near the end is so very sad,...

I never seem to listen to these late at night, but this one works just as well for an early Sunday morning....thanks!

Those opening 24 seconds are just begging to be sampled.

I thought Chet's estate had pulled all the YouTube videos of him they could find - have they loosened up?

George Shearing, also had a great cut on this.
How bout "Love for Sale " for Edwards ?

I met Chet during a longish stay in Rome. His horn chops had suffered somewhat from his hard life-style, so he had reinvented himself as a singer, and did very well indeed. Nice track, this.

I loved being reminded what a unique artist Chet Baker was. Thanks! Time to dig out that CD now.

'chet baker sings' is one of my favorite cds ever. it lives in my travelling cd case. it makes me cry listening to that sweet, sweet voice and knowing how it all went for him.

yeah, i'm the same guy who was foaming at the mouth on the RATM thread last week, lol...

.

'Lets Get Lost' is my favorite film of all time, beautiful music and sad poignant interviews and photos ....amazing piece of work.
The soundtrack is great too, but "Best of Chet Baker Sings" is a PhD course in how to do standards.

While his singing was nice it in no way reflects the true talent of Chet Baker. I was in college during the very late 1950s and early 1960s when Chet Baker was at his best. "Russ Job" is probably one of the best pure modern jazz pieces ever recorded. It was a shame he had to destroy himself by going to Turkey where they broke up is mouth so bad that he could only get a decent sound out of a trumpet and had to go to the Fluglelhorn to make a living. Chet was the best of the era I remember so well. I still have the Chet Baker albums I played almost everyday when I was back in college.
