C&L's Late Night Music Club with Billie Holiday
A St. Valentine's Day special, featuring Billie Holiday and an all-star cast of players, most notably, imo, Lester Young (check out his solo at the 2:00 mark). Not to downgrade the rest of the players at all- Coleman Hawkins two solos are as dandy as it gets- but the heat generated between Lady Day and Pres is palpable.
Our sister site Newstalgia has a romantic favorite from The Page Cavanaugh Trio: No Moon At All.
So...What music are you using to woo your sweetie?

The fist tenor solo is by Ben Webster, not Coleman Hawkins. When I hear the phrase "the Three Tenors," this performance always comes to mind: Ben Webster, Lester Young, and Coleman Hawkins.

This performance was broadcast in the mid-50's as part of a show entitled "The Sound of Jazz." Most of the show is available on DVD: The Sound of Jazz. The DVD leaves off a fine performance by Thelonious Monk (it's on the VHS version, if you can find a copy). Red Allen leads off and steals the show until Billie claims it for her own. Most of the individual performances are on YouTube. They're all worth a listen.
I got this LP from a thrift shop in the 70s. I wonder if the surface is noisy now. I taped it and listened to the tape for years, and Lady Day's voice was a favorite. The DVD sounds intriguing.
