after seeing the thread about Shepard Fairey's artwork. Mr Fairey's images of Barack Obama are eerily reminiscent of Mr Warhol's talents in that regard.

Of course, David Bowie music is always a treat!

Now I can get 'Life On Mars' out of my head. Love this tune along with nostalgic crackle and tinny sound of vinyl. Remember Bowie went on to play Warhol in BASQUIAT.

Wow

37 year-old track and it's completely fresh today. Just like a Twinkie except way cooler.

What's vinyl?

It's what they make red mini-skirts with.

Preferably partnered with a black silk blouse.

I've been pulling out my Depeche Mode CDs a bit lately, so here's a classic, which would have to be dedicated to Wall Street for sure.

Depeche Mode - Everything Counts (In Large Amounts)

My love for David Bowie. It's hard to pic a favorite Bowie tune, but this is up there:
Ashes to Ashes (and such a fantastically weird early music video!)

Viola, here's Seu Jorge's cover of Life on Mars from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Annaleigh, I love Everything Counts. Great song!

ETA: Also, here's a hilarious homage to Bowie's...ahem...perfomance in the movie Labyrinth. Anybody who grew up in the 1980s will know what I'm talking about...

the master.

They all look so young in those clips! Sad news indeed.

Saw enough Warhol art films back in the day. Have a print hanging in the living room. Read one of the guy's books, some of his hanger-on's books, and subscribed to Interview for a few years. Obviously, felt an affinity. It might seem like an odd little song but I think Bowie really nailed Warhol in sound.

Alice Cooper wannabe wanker.

I haven't heard that one since, oh, lets see? Since it came out?
Of course my friend above me doesn't appreciate Bowie. Y, I see no comparison to Alice. But that's just me. anyway.

And here's someone else.
Edwyn Collins .. A Girl Like You.

Not so much in the music but the act: Alice Cooper was the protean Glitter/Glam

As well as Punk, Goth, Shock and Theatre rocker.

In fact, he was moving from glam to shock at the time Bowie came out. Supposedly, Bowie was in the audience when the still effeminate Alice Cooper was touring England in 1971-1972.

Cooper's debut album in 1968-1969 Pretties For You stiffed in America, but was voted best album in Germany, where so much of the New Wave sound would come later based in part on these primitive early experiments.

Now Bowie tries to take the credit for all of the above.

I especially liked the Edwyn Collins tune. Thanks :)

I did rather fancy his Scary Monsters album.

But Diamond Dogs bored me.

And he either sounded in other album like he was doing the music of the Hollies or sounded Enoesque.

Eno

Well yeah, Eno was a big part of that. One of the many things I like about Bowie is that he's versatile.
Here, try these guys out. The Smithereens. Blood and Roses.

I always liked fudging

But did they ever write an original song?

I heard 3 bowie songs in a single commercial break the other night. Could you imagine what it feels like to have your music so appreciated and recognized?

for introducing me to hunky dory!
