Believe me it was originally released in 1986. It has been reissued in a remastered version and that is the one you are seeing on Amazon. I still have good memories of driving around West L.A. with a friend of mine who was attending UCLA and hearing this song on the radio a couple of times. Besides, didn't you notice Sinead O'Connor in the video looks just like she did in when her debut album came out?
Plus Goodbye Jumbo and I still have Egyptology. Private Revolution is a nice Prince knockoff but the great song that still holds up really well of that album and is a classic (in my opinion) is Ship Of Fools. I saw World Party at the Warfield in San Francisco with Jellyfish opening. It was a good show. Does that date me?
That had to have been a great show. Two of my favorite bands from that period (late '80s early '90s), and I still have them in regular rotation on my iPod. In fact I just heard "New Mistake" and "Way Down Now" in the last couple of hours.
And "Ship of Fools" is a great song, reminds me (vocally) of Jagger a bit.
Hypocrites and zealots are struggling for the throne.

I just don't wanna see you
Give it all away.
Here's a list of things that someday you won't know you missed.
Naked in the river watching planets as they kiss.
Surfers in the sunlight, dancers on the sea.
Nothin' on your mind, spirit so free.
I just don't wanna see you give it all away.
Cause it ain't here to stay and you can't take it anyway.

and I absolutely LOVE that tree.
A simply fine musical selection this evening, bluegal!
World Party (Karl Wallinger). This song is from 1986, not 2002. He made this (his debut) album in his home studio shortly after leaving The Waterboys.
It was released on CD On 9/11/02, according to Amazon.
On a related note, I remember when Dumbing Up took like five years to be released in the states.

This was one of the first CDs I purchased in 1986, along with Joshua Tree and a few other classics. Great flashback!!!
To me, he's in a class sorta like Thomas Dolby, but I think way more musically talented.
The song that always comes to mind FIRST though is the choral parody:
"And God said Look after the planet,
Look after the Planet,
Look after the Planet.
God said, Look after the planet,
And Man said "FUCK YOU" ...
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You had me squealing like it's 1964 and I'm standing ten feet away from the Beatles at the Ed Sullivan theater.

"Is it like today?" is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Ah, you absolute geniuses of good taste!
I know she's probably a bit before your time, bluegal, [Deleted. You're rude. Go play the scold on your own site-Sitemonitor]
She was a one of a kind voice and inspiration.
I had fun this evening. Good night to all and be well :)

I saw Karl Wallinger and World Party live a year or two ago (they were supporting the Split Enz reunion tour).
Fantastic band, great musicianship.
This brings back a lot of memories....all good. I used to listen to this CD over and over again. Thank you, Bluegal.
We were Karl's first stop when he came over to do press for this album. Brilliant guy in a quiet sort of way.
