Late Night Music Club RIP Eartha Kitt

Reuters:

Eartha Kitt, who rose from the Southern cotton fields to captivate audiences around the world with sultry performances as a singer, dancer and actress, died on Thursday at the age of 81.

...Actor-director Orson Welles once called Kitt "the most exciting woman alive" and, along with Lena Horne, she was one of the first African-American sex symbols.

I saw her in several productions and can't believe we have lost another life to colon cancer when the disease today is so preventable. Thank goodness for film and recordings, but that sweet lady left us long before she needed to. R.I.P. Eartha. You will be missed.

What a fantastic voice and presence she had!

You will never be forgotten, sweet Eartha.

I was lucky to see Eartha Kitt perform in Canada 2007. She performed to a sold out crowd of all ages. Yes she did purr like a kitten and the crowd went wild. Eartha Kitt wasn't very kind to Miss Kitt as things were different back then for Blacks. America has a habit of treating famous Blacks so bad they leave the country, but when they die they become a US treasure. Eartha was a product of rape and was always looking for love and exceptince. The World became her family and she was blessed with a daughter. She might not have gotten the love she so much wanted from many in the USA but God gave her the love of billions around the World. She spoke up for Civil Rights and to end the Vietnam War as she was condemned for it as the Govenment tried to destroy her career. She got to see what God's plan was as she lived to see Barack Obama become President by the most electorial votes in the history of this country. Rest in Peace.

I responded a couple of entries ago with a clip of Eartha Kitt's Santa Baby. There was some idiot on Youtube calling her every filthy name in the book, all on this date. Christams day and so soon after her death. I'm begining to wonder if Youtube is run by some brain dead sons of bitches.

Eartha, I hardly knew you...And I'll miss you.

I think I owe my later-life avocation all to Eartha Kitt.

For "Sad Monkey" ref, see Pharyngula, recently...

My happy monkey is now a very sad monkey.

Eartha Kitt was truly one of a kind in so many ways. She could certainly kitty-growl like no other.

You've been spanking your monkey?

Special holiday greetings from me to you! You are so very sweet yourself.

I was really busy (and sleeping when I wasn't busy) for a couple of days, then I wasn't able to post because of a technical error for another couple of days ... it drove me crazy!

Anyway, it's so great to be back among friends like you!

I just love your spirit. You make everybody smile, or atleast me. :)

Was about ready to send a search party out for you a few days ago! Good to see your sweetness back. Never the same without ya.

Here’s hoping your xmas was happy and your family best wishes for the new year. Did your hubby give you something special? No not a toaster or vacuum cleaner, something befitting your beauty and kindness. Like this----Eartha Kitt: Old fashioned millionaire

Thanks for the sickening post. I about jumped out of my chair. Something befitting?

It sure as HELL ain't Eartha Kitt's last century version of life. That's for damn sure.

And I know you know that.

:)

it was just a joke, too late to change it now

It's the same song you posted!

I knew you had good intentions and also you were partially just kidding around, my friend. :)

I feel honored you think I deserve nice things like that.

I mistook your post and then couldn't edit my response.

over and out.

I was fortunate enough to get to see Eartha Kitt and Mickey Rooney in The Wizard of Oz. She made a Great Wicked Witch.
At anyrate, Here's Eartha singing "I Want to be Evil"

Most people don't know that Eartha Kitt was Cat Woman.

That was during the last season of Batman, when some felt it was getting TOOO silly, reduced to one half hour a week, when before it was a half hour on Wednesday, then another half hour on Thursday. And also, just like the Lone Ranger TV show of the 50's (started in '49), they were sooo fearful of offending the South, that blacks never even were seen on LR, and Batman's romance with Catwoman was dropped.

It probably didn't help that Batgirl was added because the rumor was Burt Ward was being drafted into Vietnam, and when he showed up for another season as Robin people wondered what happened. And since they essentially saw Batman/Bruce Wayne, Robin/Dick Grayson, Batgirl/Barbara Gordon as essentially being six characters to write for the half-hour show got too busy. They were also having to create more and more villains, that had nothing to do with Bob Kane, so celebrities could get their guest shots in.

that I remember Eartha Kitt as the old woman in Ernest Scared Stupid?

Maybe I'm just too young to really remember her as Catwoman, etc

Once I was having lunch outside of my office and took out my harmonica and was playing a piece of 12 bar blues when a tight looking black woman came by and stopped to listen. I put a lot of huff into the piece, and just before I finished the woman took out a dollar bill and put it in my ball cap that I had taken off and was sitting next to me. She took off before I could explain to her that I was just messing around, not playing for tips, but she was gone.
A kid next to me said, “Hey man that was Eartha Kitt!”
I was high for a while to think that the only money I have ever made playing was when Eartha Kitt left me a dollar. The thing is I later met the woman who left me the dollar and it wasn’t Eartha Kitt, she is a bank officer living in Denver, but when I told her that a young man and I thought she looked like Eartha KItt she said she just glowed for days.
Two people that never came close to meeting her and yet she still made us feel special just for the imagined chance of meeting such a rare person. There aren’t many people that can do that for you.
I still have the dollar too.
