Late Night Music Club with Tori Amos
This isn't peanut butter and chocolate. It's more two things that I don't think are so great-- the way-over-played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and, well, Tori Amos.
Together they sound really good to me. Huh.
Anyone else have some unexpectedly good covers to share? And what else are you listening to tonight?

World music artist.
Incredible singer.
Wonderful spirit.
Sang in Spanish, English and French.
Born: Big Indian, NY.
Died: Montreal, QC New Years Day.
Age 37.
Breast cancer.
Made 3 incredible albums.
Once you hear this voice you may never forget it.

She was an incredible singer.
My condolences to her family and friends.
she was very unique.
I linked these videos of her, here last week, I knew she was sick she had canceled her European Tour for her new record (2009)
its sad when someone that good never got on Good Morning America or Letterman or whatever... but hey maybe she wouldnt have wanted to anyway.

...So let me just say that she sang this like it was the best sex ever - and I'm just fine with it.
I liked Tori Amos better when she was called Kate Bush.
Oh wait. That was Kate Bush.
Never mind.
"I can't keep doing this on my own with these...people."
I second that one, Johnny!
Nothing wrong with a little influence coming out of a singer from time to time. Nothing worse than that singer's influences bleeding from them with every song. Yuck!
Long live Kate Bush!
Tori Amos is fine by me!
Tool cover of No Quarter by Led Zeppelin is genius.
Dolly Parton does Stairway to Heaven.
Best. Version. Ever.
I kid you not.
Okay, that was seriously weird. O_o
But you're right. It's really good.
There's always free cheddar in the mousetrap, baby. - Tom Waits
I have to give the edge to Tool for originality -- their No Quarter is genius -- but this is exactly how Stairway should be covered.
Dolly nailed it.
The LNMC is rocking tonight!
gna
although I love Dolly.
I saw Frank Zappa cover it at the Tower theatre in Upper Darby, PA
Now THAT kicked ass. He had a horn section do the big guitar solo.
Perfection.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsS811o21-k
I first heard him do this on the Howard Stern show and I had to have it.
It's from 'Rock Swings!'
BTW, I'm a massage therapist and I put his cover of 'Eyes Without a Face' on the massage track of my iPod.
Also Johnny Cash doing 'Hurt' and 'Personal Jesus', which are also amazing covers.
And I guess we have to come full circle by having Nirvana doing David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold the World'
That's an excellent cover
The Bad Plus - Smells Like Teen Spirit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CS_5ArGngW4
All of these are great acoustic covers
Tegan and Sara - covering the Boss's "Dancing in the Dark"
Trace Bundy - covering Gun n Roses "Sweet Child O Mine"
Some youtube girl - covering Arcade Fire's "Wake Up"
Some youtube guy - covering Sponge's "Molly"
And this is some random video some kid made of his dog, but he used Catherine Wheel - covering Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here. It really is a great cover.
Nightwish's cover of this song is great. The film clip is rubbish.

Lou Barlow (formerly of Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh) - Round 'n Round (originally by Ratt)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2GucoX2nWk
There's also an awesome album of covers called "Guilt by Association."

Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting
Coppelius doing Iron Maiden's Killers
Coppelius is a fantastically odd band that plays metal using cello, double bass, and clarinet. The Victorian outfits only add the show.

The last great adventure left to mankind
Screams a drooping lady
Offering her dreamdolls
at less than extortionate prices,
And as the notes and coins are taken out
I'm taken in, to the factory floor.
For the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
All ready to use
the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
just need a fuse.
Got people stocked in every shade,
Must be doing well with trade.
Stamped, addressed, in odd fatality.
That evens out their personality.
With profit potential marked by a sign,
I can recognise some of the production line,
No bite at all in labour bondage,
Just wrinkled wrappers or human bandage.
The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
All ready to use
Its the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
just need a fuse.
The hall runs like clockwork
Their hands mark out the time,
Empty in their fullness
Like a frozen pantomime.
Everyone's a sales representative
Wearing slogans in their shrine.
Dishing out failsafe superlative,
Brother John is No. 9.
For the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
All ready to use
Its the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
just need a fuse.
The decor on the ceiling
Has planned out their future day
I see no sign of free will,
So I guess Ill have to pay, pay my way,
For the Grand Parade.
For the Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
All ready to use
The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging
just need a fuse.
That was outstanding.

But I enjoy this more than the original.

(There are more of these.)

The youtube "related videos" did me right well tonight -- through Hendrix covers into Bill Laswell and beyond.
Not sure if this is quite what you meant by "cover", but I think it counts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1A_uSEjTIQ

i think kurt is turning over in his grave with torture.
I doubt anything would count as torture after being married to Courtney Love.
There's always free cheddar in the mousetrap, baby. - Tom Waits
outdoors in Portland OR they played this song before coming out on stage, kurdt came out spinning goofishly, finger on head ballarena style, I didn't get the impression that they were impressed, oh well
But that would be boring so...
