I've been listening to Brandi's new album, Give Up the Ghost. It's a somewhat subdued record, but it also shows her real maturation as an artist. There's no knockout track like "The Story," but it really showcases both her amazing voice and her band's superb musicianship and songwriting. "Dying Day" stands out, so I went looking for a video of it, and found this remarkably good live version, taken last month in Salt Lake City, at canihelpyoug's YouTube page. It's unplugged, and Brandi sings her ass off. Enjoy.

I went to see Brandi in Ann Arbor, MI. It was one of the better shows I've seen. Her entire band is stellar, and she clearly is very intimate with the literature of folk music. She did a medley of Johnny Cash songs as an encore, including one of my favorites ("Jackson").*
However, the show was interrupted a few times - the building fire alarm kept going off, and crazy fans couldn't contain their girlcrushes. She really puts on a killer live show, and she's a very charming performer.
* The best encore I've ever seen, however, was when Cibo Matto came to Detroit many years ago, and their encore was Side 2 of "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" by Public Enemy.
