C&L's Late Night Music Club with Ryan Adams and the Cardinals
By driftglass Tuesday Oct 28, 2008 7:00pmThis studio cut from the new album is less aurally interesting and three-dimensional than the live version I heard on the radio machine, but the available YouTube live versions all seem to have have that jittery-cinéma-vérité-shot-with-the-microphone-in-a-coffee-can thing going on.

but that was nice. Similar to U2's style of music. Thanks, dg.
Ryan Adams. The Rescue Blues.
Enjoy
But I think they're similar, well, a little.
Jackie Greene. Mexican Girl.
This was one of his pop tunes. He has quite a few other tunes that are pretty good.
Indeed, I enjoyed those very much.
Strong stuff there, Mr. D. Glass! I've never heard of these folks before, but I like their "thick" sound, their somber minor chords and that crawling bass.
You are a gentleman of impeccable taste, with a sorcery about your own blog which is well nigh irresistible...
Also a special thanks for Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand The Rain" several days ago; THAT hit the everlovin' spot!
The "jittery-cinéma-vérité-shot-with-the-microphone-in-a-coffee-can" description is priceless.

pretty good ... I like it .. sooner than most .. some stuff takes more plays .. but some stuff just hits right away
Since a few folks here seem unfamiliar with his work, I'll be happy to provide a short synopsis of this versatile artist.
Ryan Adams is both an original and also capable of skillfully evoking some of the greatest classic rockers. Sometimes he seems to be channelling Neil Young (Meadowlake Street), or the Grateful Dead (Magnolia Mountain), or Van Morrison (Answering Bell), or Bob Dylan (To Be Young...) - he co-mingles and references these influences seamlessly, but rather than just tapping the vein that invigorated all of his influences, he infuses it with new blood.
He can rock out... and then then stun you with hauntingly beautiful melodies: "How do you Keep Love Alive", "Two", "I See Monsters".
Adams is incredibly prolific... he's recorded several albums with his current band (the Cardinals), several with his previous band (Whiskeytown), as well as his own solo albums.
This new album sounds very strong to me... perhaps up there with some of his best, like Heartbreaker, Gold, Cold Roses and Love Is Hell.

you can listen to some live shows here.
The new songs, most of them, are quite amazing, I think. Cold Roses is a great album, as is Easy Tiger, and Jacksonville City Nights but it's live where he shines. So glad to see Ryan Adams show up on one of my favorite new sites!
