C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Otis Redding
By driftglass Monday Nov 03, 2008 8:00pmOtis is magnificent, but it's the drum that makes this song. Snapping away in the background, too fast for a ballad, too soft to overwhelm, setting us all up for Otis to bust it wide open just after the two minute mark.

One of a kind, his music still gives me chills. I didn't know he was gone until I went to the RR hall of fame in Cleveland. I had to turn away,a grown man tearing up.
otis sure did cause a ruckus with that british crowd. when he came back onstage, they looked like they were going to bum rush it.
of course, the british are too well mannered for that. but i wonder what would happen in belfast.
A favorite tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0 and my best wishes for tomorrow.
That was a nice gesture. We're all hoping for a better world as of Inauguration Day.
I hope everyone goes out there tomorrow and VOTES! I hope more than anything that the kids come through and all of those registered voters VOTE!
Thanks for the tune.
p.s. did you get the pooch back? All ok on the pooch front?
Indeed. Wet and full of burrs from a self-indulgent romp through the brush but recovered intact.
I always freak when one of mine would get out, and wouldn't stop worrying until they were back home. He was in my thoughts.
and this is a classic song. Great choice, driftglass.
Hey, here are two songs that I wrote specifically for Obama and Democrats. The 2nd one will work best as it becomes clear that Obama is going to win. Feel free to download them and share them with whomever you like.

It doesnt get too much better...Otis on vocals, Booker T. and the MG's as your rhythm section and the one of a kind Memphis horns! Talk about Soul...when this record came out people thought the constant rim shot by Al Jackson was so in the pocket and perfect that is was actually a click track and not a human being! But as you can see in the flesh live, the whole group is just putting it down!!!
Al Jackson, Jr. was simply THE BEST. He became the heart and soul of Booker T. & The MG's and, by extension, of Stax Records because they were that studio's house band. (Rolling Stone magazine once crowned the MG's the "greatest and tightest" of all time!) He played on all the hits of Sam & Dave, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Albert King, Don Covay, Eddie Floyd and the Staple Singers. (That was also him playing drums on that wicked Ann Peebles tune posted here by Mr. D. Glass about a week ago, "I Can't Stand The Rain." Matchless taste!)
Unfortunately, this musical titan was shot to death in 1975 and the world is vastly poorer for his passing. I count myself extraordinarily lucky to have seen him perform live with the MG's when they were touring in support of their biggest hit, "Time Is Tight."
RIP, Mr. Jackson...
Consider this an act of piracy.....

Senses Working Overtime
Let It All Hang Out
So many great emotions and memories. I can still remember hearing this on the radio when I was a boy in New Orleans. It enraptured me then and still does now.
Otis did so many great songs in his too-short life, but this one remains my favorite, starting off vulnerable and slow and ending in an inchoate soul fury.
This music just doesn't let you feel old.
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life
So many great and timely tunes this evening! I especially love Stevie Wonder. Very nice.
I mean, it's almost perfect, but Stevie fails to hit a low note and starts gigglin' 'bout it- and that giggle adds to the charm, to the warmly inviting, spontaneous, genuine recording.

And P.S. to all of the snobs who don't like the homemade videos--close your eyes and recognize..by listening. To the music. Seriously. It's a small complaint when you don't even have to watch a video while you are running around doing things or hey, hear it at work, even better....

I always loved that song, and what a great live performance. Takes me back to 67. Thanks.
Ditto the above post from Andhakari. Otis Redding sounds great out front.
A young Sinatra recorded a beautiful version of that same song.
my favorite version of this song. Otis was an amazing artist. I was a child when he was killed, but even then I knew great music. He was one of a kind. Thank you for posting this video.
