Connections

Connections are the way Crooks and Liars associates your account on the site with your account on various social networking sites. By enabling connections to various social networking sites you are able to share various information between Crooks and Liars and that site. It also enables you to login to Crooks and Liars using your credentials from that site.

Setting Up Connections

There are two ways to setup connections to the different social sites we offer the service through. The first method is to click the Connect With icon next to the login link for the service you want to connect through.

You will be taken to that service’s authorization page, which confirms that you want to grant Crooks and Liars access to certain account information. Once you allow the connections you will be redirected back to the Crooks and Liars registration page. If you already have an account simply click on the Login tab above the registration form and login with your Crooks and Liars credentials. Once you do that your C&L account will be linked with that social network account.

The second method is simpler, yet very similar. While logged into Crooks and Liars go to your “My Account” page then click on the “Connections” tab. From there you will have buttons for each social networking site we offer connections through. Simply click on the connect button for the service you want to use and you will be taken through the same authorization process. Once complete your accounts will be linked.

You are not limited to a single social site either. Each C&L user is allowed to connect with each social site we offer. You are still limited to one account on C&L, but you may link one each of any social site we connect through to that account, increasing your options to interact with C&L and your favorite social networking sites.

Connections Options

There aren’t many options to connections. You can change your templates that will be used to post content to your social connection site. You can also opt-in to have your connections shared on C&L. What this will do is place an icon on each of your comments, as well as a link on your profile to your homepage on that connection account. It’s a great way to increase your friends/followers on your favorite sites.

Sharing Comments

When you comment on a post at C&L you will have the option of sharing that comment on any of your social connections. To do so simply check the box(es) of the services you want to post the comment to. Once you submit your comment it will be sent out to those services automatically.

C&L uses a default template for comments, but you do have the ability to override those templates in your Connections page.

Special Limitations

There are certain limitations each social site implements. Below is a list of those limitations:

Twitter: Each item posted to Twitter is limited to 140 characters. To conform to this, the connections templating system will truncate certain parts of your message. You can view a list of these items on the templates page.

Facebook: Facebook limits each app to post 10 items to your wall in a 24 hour period. Pleas keep this in mind when publishing things like comments to your wall. All items posted to your Facebook wall automatically includes the post’s title, description, link and image (if applicable).

Special Note On Facebook Permissions

When you authorize C&L to connect with your Facebook account you grant the following permissions:

• Access my data when I'm not using the application
  (This will allow our automatic publishing of new posts and comments to your wall)
• Publish content to my Wall
  (This will allow our automatic publishing of new posts and comments to your wall)
• Access my email address
  (We only use your email to streamline registration on C&L. C&L will never sell or disclose your email per our privacy policy)
