Late Night Music Club welcomes Chrissie Hynde and Willie Nelson
By Howie Klein Monday Nov 17, 2008 9:00pmBreak Up The Concrete is the new album-- the first since Artemis released the mostly unheraldedLoose Screw six years ago-- from The Pretenders. I love it. So many great references to Dylan! And, like most Pretenders' albums I love it because of Chrissie's songwriting. And yet, tonight we're listening to one of the two songs on the album, the other being "Rosalee," not written by Chrissie. Actually this isn't even officially on the regular album. It's a bonus track offered by a certain unnamed big box retailer for CDs sold in their store. And, fittingly, it's a song, "Both Sides Of Goodbye," by Hank Williams, Jr. Fortunately Chrissie chose Willie Nelson to sing it with her.

by themselves. Put them together and we're talking heavenly music.
Thanks, Howie, for that special treat!
KCRW.com has a live set of Hynde promoting this cd that features an even more pared-down, garage-y sound for the songs. I bought the CD after hearing her remarkable live performance and was very dissappointed with the production and pacing of the songs.
Check it out on Nick Harcourt's site.
Fuck Hank Williams Jr.
I like his Dad, and Hank III, but that proud to be rednecky crap of Jr's just leaves me cold.
by my good friend Don Smith, wonderful veteran engineer. I got to hear some of it while he was mixing. Most of it was tracked live.
Thanks, Howie, it's a great album by a great talent.
Brass in pocket was and is still a classic...yesssssssss
Too often here lately, we have been mourning the deaths of musical legends. Tonight, we can celebrate the great musicians who are still among us.
Willie and Chrissie are perfect together.
This is a great song, that is made not one bit better by being juxtaposed with political satire, e.g. images of bush etc. But thanks for the tunes anyway.
the wonderful Jason Joseph a few months ago? Watching that clip for the first time was so very moving for me. I will never forget it. And the best part is, the hopes and dreams in that video came true.
Time for me to call it a night. Thanks, C&L, you rock!
Is a racist, not doubt about it. He does write some good songs though.
It's hard for me to reconcile those two things, but apparently Willie and Chrissie have no issue with it.
Who knows, maybe by just spreading the love and setting a good example, guys like HANK will change....
Probably not, but here's to those who keep hoping.
but skippy's late nite music club has both chrissy and willie...
