C&L's Late Night Music Club With The B-52s

Title: Rock Lobster
Artist: B52s

This version of Rock Lobster shows the young B-52s in true form. With singer Fred Schneider sportin a pornstache, and cranking out enough cow bell to satisfy even Christopher Walken, the band flat out nails it.

A good diversion from a dull Sunday. Thanks.

Thelonious Monk - Round About Midnight

That was yummy, ctalk!

Glad you liked it calgarylady. Here's some groovy background music.

Celestial Soda Pop

The video is very moving and beautiful.

I must confess, I fell asleep early last night and missed most of the LNMC. Thanks again for posting this!

This is one band that I never cared for much.

Love the B52s!! Got some in my MP3 player right now.

Are you back in Seoul?

I'm in Prague, but leaving. I don't have enough time to get my work visa done. Europe now has the Schengen Zone-- 90 day limit, without visa.

I tried. It has been a very funky and interesting 3 months, but I'm Asia bound today.

Are you going back to your same pad in Seoul, or look for a new one?

Same pad. My lover is still there. This was a one-year working holiday (that lasted only 3 months.)

This one will get your friends moving.

Sadly, all the live versions online seem to suck. I guess mixers and producers were this band's best friends...

One of the best bands ever!!!!
And who says gays can't rock, the B-52s sported 3 openly gay members.
They are an awesome band!!!

wasn't it?

Like Fred once said, you have to rock down there!

I thought I heard that REM and the B-52's both were from Athens?

When Ricky died, the reported cause was "cancer". AIDS was never mentioned.

God, was I crushed when I read that he died.

Right Side Of A Good Thing

I think I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: If the Fleshtones make an appearance at a club anywhere near you, go see them. They're definitely grayer than they were in 1982 or '83 (when this was recorded), but they're still very high energy.

...the Fleshtones made a killing from The Dreg '77's high-profile appearance in a hit movie soundtrack.

)O(

I've been found out! Yeah, I was looking for some older J Geils Band stuff, but couldn't find quite the right thing.

That band had a love affair with Detroit, and the city reciprocated. They used to sell out seven nights at Pine Knob whenever they'd tour. If you've ever heard those live cuts of J Geils Band on the radio, odds are they were recorded there.

Kinda surprised studio versions in HQ aren't up.

GREAT live band. Saw them back when U2 opened for them...

The Love Stinks or Centerfold tours, right? Must be Centerfold, because, iirc, the Love Stinks tour was a couple of years before U2 released their first LP.

I think U2 had just released 'Boy'? Helluva show by both.

Those were the days...

It wasn't the sound quality.

I was looking for one or two of the recordings off of earlier albums from the '70s and/or some older concert footage.

Tighten Up

Apologies for the audio quality, but at least you get to see Archie and The Drells dancing just as good as they want.

I always thought it was"and we can dance as good as we walk"??!!

so b-52's leads me to a klaus nomi video blow-out. very strange how that happens.

leads me back to read some bio's on the b52s and oddly enough, i am not in any of them. it turns out, i was never in the band. this world is messed up.

Wow, they were all so young! The four string guitar blows my mind.

)O(

I like how sweaty the girls look.

"...when parties get OUT. OF. HAND!"

And who's to blame....when they get....POORLY PLANNED?

I saw the B52s that year, opening for the Talking Heads on both of their first tours. Awesome.

This version of Rock Lobster really takes me back to my youth in the Haight-Ashbury! Post hippie era of course.

And I thought they totally lost their charm when they tuned their instruments and got all cleaned up, in the Love Shack era. Yawn.

My friend and I bought B52's tickets as a result of Love and Rockets tickets being sold out and I must say we had the best time ever. Never figured out the point of the band in general. Heard this song at a church dance and totally flipped out. I thought it was a song about the Jesus fish. Never quite recovered but I danced really hard. Good times. Whatever happened to Fred?
