By Logan Murphy Friday Oct 30, 2009 7:30pm(h/t Akeem)
We're going to bring the room down for a little while this evening. Chet Baker's version of Elvis Costello's Almost Blue is sure to bring your pulse down and take you back -- or away to somewhere else. So kick back, grab a cuppa somethin' and relax...

and very smooooth. Thanks Logan!
I saw a documentary with Chet Baker in it. It was the first time I heard of this man. He completely and utterly mesmerized me with that smooth sound.
What a unique sound!!
Thanks!
Elvis Costello is a scandalously under-appreciated songwriter, a real treasure, and Chet Baker was the very soul of Cool. It would be great to hear some of Baker's work with Stan Getz; things got downright frosty when those two worked together.
I loved Costello's collaboration with Burt Bacharach, both the ballads and the absolutely heart-rending anti-war song "Who Are These People?"
...did you notice a bit of a problem with the selection of which people to show in the video?
Elvis Costello wrote Almost Blue FOR Chet, a variation of Chet's first vocal release: The Thrill Is Gone. He had no idea Chet even knew about it until after his passing when he was told of the performance in the film: Let's Get Lost. Elvis said: "It was like receiving a message from beyond the grave".
I was lucky enough to inherit several Chet Baker CD's and some vinyl. This, though, was not in the collection, and it is far superior to most of what I do have. A lovely treat for Halloween--thank you!
