C&L's Late Night Music Club With Cream

Title: Sunshine Of Your Love

I just happened across this very raw, live version of Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream and thought I'd share it with the class. I love the camera work, cool set, dueling stacks, Clapton's SG, and Baker's walkabout during the lead break.

Speaking of Eric Clapton, he was forced to bow out of this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert due to gallstone surgery. No worries, he's doing fine and Jeff Beck will be taking his place.

I enjoyed that, Evet.

Evet's picture

He "paints with sounds" sort of speak. Jeff's impossible to imitate.

RunAmok's picture

He somehow gets inside every note that he plays, and he is completely in command of the instrument.

Beck may be the only western musician who could properly play the micro-tonal intervals in this tune. I wouldn't even try to imitate it.

I got your message the other night. Thank You.
Here, I thought you might like this.
Cream. Spoonful. From Wheels of Fire.
To me, this is one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever.
You gotta listen to all of it. Baker, Bruce and Clapton.
I missed many a day of school to get loaded and listen to this.

Here's part 2.

I was a kid (16) when that came out. I wore out that LP I listened to it so much. And Disraeli Gears. I thought, man we got to get into this!

I don't dislike Cream; they just don't do as much for me as CA-grown psychedelia: The Dead, The Airplane. Of course, being in the right frame with the right "attitude" can make all the difference...

When did your dad pass? Had he been sick long? How old?

When I hear that kind of stuff, I guess I can't really complain about anything. 92 glorious degrees here in Orlando today; a good day to be grateful.

A couple for your dad:

Or Tony Bennet.
He used to get so ticked off when my brother and I would blast Zep. I remember the look on his face when Zep was on.
Utter disgust :). He just hated it.:)
Hey Did you listen to Spoonful? You should. You might find that you like them more.

so I can listen to in the car. Still got an f'ed up sound card in my laptop. Distorted distortion kinda sucks...

Must have been about 1968 , Cream at the Eagles auditorium , Seattle . No chairs or isles , everyone sitting on the floor , J's being passed around all over the place , Clapton twenty five feet in front of me , what a night !

Sounds amazing, Kreskin.

I've seen the young lady in video's before playing with Beck. She looks pretty young to be playin with people like Beck and Clapton.
Who is she? What's her story? That is one lucky young lady. Hey, I'm not taken away anything from her talent. She obviously has the talent and has earned her shot.
But damn, she looks like a teenager. yeah I know, She can't be. But still. For awhile there, I thought she was Becks daughter.

Being that young. With so much talent. Her future is so bright, She's gotta wear shades.

I was thinking the same thing, mudshark. She looked really young to be playing with the likes of Beck.

She's truly amazing! Thanks, miss_kitty!

mudshark's picture

That's her. W0W!
She kinda reminds me of Stanley Clarke the way she played in that vid. Awesome talent. She sure landed on her feet.

See u folks have taken care of it.
I cant get over the sheer joy on her face at the start of the tune ...makes it so much more fun to watch.

Wow.

Beck has given Tal a very big stage to play on, and she has certainly taken advantage of the opportunity. And it's beautiful to see the sheer joy that Beck feels when he listens to Tal tear it up. He's not only a galaxy-class talent, he has the ability to recognize it in others, and the generosity to help them share it with the world.

Wow! That chick rules! Her name's gonna be right up their with Jaco's and James Jamerson's in the pantheon of great bass players

My all time fave bass player is Chris Squire. He is, in my estimation one of the best around. Check out the bass work in this song. I especially love the bass run at around the 1:07 mark.

This is how rock and roll should sound.
God, I wish Clapton hadn't changed to strats. Listen to that humbucker tone of "the fool" Gibson SG!!

...Tom Dowd suggested to Ginger that he play "indian-style" toms...made the whole song work!

As a player who really likes the heavier guitar stuff, Cream was one of the best! All three of these guys are favorites of mine with their respective instruments. I absolutely love Clapton's guitar work/tone and Baker's hard drumming, with lots of rolls is great-Bruce's bass work is nothing to sneeze at either!
