C&L's Late Night Music Club With Willie Wonka

Title: Pure Imagination

Yup, Willie Wonka...as portrayed by Gene Wilder. Boy, does this take me back. In fact, this was the first movie I saw at an indoor theater. Ahh, to be a kid again.

Tonight you have the run of the C&L factory! Post some of your favorite songs, movie clips or cartoons from your childhood. Watch your step, and remember, there are little surprises around every corner, but nothing dangerous!

PS Our sister site Newstalgia has Pink Floyd, Live at the Paris Theatre, London 1970, for your listening pleasure.

It's a shame that there were no hooka-smoking catapillars sitting on any of the candy mushrooms.

ya, oompa loompas were meant to be pygmies....but i dont believe that dahl meant it as a racist stereotype

Excelsior's picture

People who claim the book is racist always seem to miss the fact that the Oompa Loompas were actually the smartest people in the whole story.

How hard would it have been to incorporate the original Oompa-Loompas?

Willie Wonka is a right wingers dream. He fired all of the domestic workers, replacing them with cheap foreign labor. He has no regard for health and safety standards. Hes likely a pedophile.

walt kovacs's picture

he fired all the domestic workers because they were helping to steal his secrets

it wasnt just cheap labor...it was free...as in slave...he paid them with chocolate...which means that oompa loompas probably all had bad teeth, bad hearts and were obese

and he didnt molest kids...he just liked to torture the bad ones

Augdir's picture

Thats his story. Neocons always live in a paraoid state of fear, someone is always out to get them. They can justify anything they do.

walt kovacs's picture

you were aware that dahl books end up on banned lists all the time

so i guess the wingnuts still dont get that wonka is one of them

but one my favorite movies, both as a kid and today, was the one that made me believe in true love, "A Little Roamce" - and this was the scene that clinched it:

Don't get me wrong - Thundercats were also a very big deal when i was a kid, but they didn't hold a candle to Diane Lane.

Robotech (at the time, I already liked fighter planes and explosions, but this show got me interested in Anime/Manga, and it was one of the few "kid's shows" that didn't talk to kids like they were stupid.)

Super Bowl Sunday is my 60th Birthday! Damn!!!

My kids asked me today what it feels like to look at 60.

I told them, "Imagine that you might have another 15 years to have decent health, be able to bike and hike and swim and think straight until things begin to fall apart. 15 years is but a tiny blip on the screen of life."

That kinda' caught 'em all speechless.
