Title: Never Make It Home

Wichita, KS is home to the greatest rock and roll dive bar in the whole country, and Split Lip Rayfield, America's finest alt-bluegrass band. The band suffered a brutal blow in 2007 when founding guitarist Kirk Rundstrom in 2007 succumbed to esophageal cancer. This was one of his final performances.

Every Monday night, C&L's Late Nite Music Club will feature an act from every state, alphabetically by state, as part of LNMC's 50 State Strategy. Know a band or artist that you think is the best in their state? Email suggestions to latenitemusicclub [at] gmail.com. Next week: Kentucky. Will we get bluegrass two weeks in a row?

Ain't nothin' like it! Bill Monroe and his boys were rocking!

Sometimes, the old dogs get it right! *G*

I love it! Split Lip Rayfield is wonderful. This is a fun, happy tune!

Thank you, Max. Very nice.

Heartsick And Blue

Not necessarily bluegrass, but you can definitely hear the influence.

Rem hosted The Green Valley Jamboree, a local show out of Kalamazoo that ran in West Michigan for decades. I wish I would have given the show more of a chance when I was a kid in the '70's, but, iirc, it ran on Saturday afternoons at that point, opposite Daniel Boone reruns.

I enjoyed that :)

My band opened for Split Lip when they were in Madison in January. Very intense stuff!
edit: make that December of '08

My old band was gonna but the show got canceled =(

What kind of music do you guys play? We were described as "expressive heartland rock."

Kate Tucker -- Say Love

It sounds like a groovy place ya got there, miss_kitty!

Can I come over and play?

;)

On that sweet note, I bid you adieu for the evening. Thanks again, Max :)

Split Lip Rayfield. their musicianship was incredible. these guys all came out of a speed metal background and it shows. they just flat out play like hell. blindingly fast. never seen anything like it. especially Wayne on the mandolin.

its hard to see in the video buy the bass player plays a converted ford gas tank strung with one strand of weed whacker line. he gets a lot of sound out of that one string.

my crew in Omaha got together with them after the show and they were the nicest guys. very humble and nice to their fans.

I think you'd really like Sneakin' Out from Portland, Oregon. They do amazing stuff as well (mandolin, bass, and percussion). Check them out!
