Is still religious persecution.
...but religious persecution is when someone is punished for his/her religious beliefs, or when someone is prevented forcibly from practicing his/her religion. Simply calling a particular religion dumb or crooked isn't persecution. And of all the dumb or crooked religions out there, Scientology is probably the dumbest & crookedest. That being said, I find myself liking Beck's music over & over again no matter how much I try not to. I just wish he didn't belong to a weird & dangerous cult.
Anyone who has an imaginary friend who can grant wishes has a neurological disorder. The real issue with Scientology is that it is a ponzi scheme. The more you pay the more you learn. Also they are very very very vindictive to members that leave. Not even goping to mention the sci fi parts of it.
Saying that I ought to not like a talented musician for having a faith that is, relative to other faiths, quite dumb, is religious persecution, albeit a fairly benign kind.
Furthermore, I love the black metal despite all the Satanism!

So I've lost a lot of respect for him.
While usually doesn't mean a big deal to me, that crazy cult is such an obvious, and malicious, scam, that I can't respect anyone who falls for their tactics.
Besides, L. Ron Hubbard was a terrible writer, a drug addict, and a man who fully admitted that the best scam would be to start your own religion. Battlefield Earth was awful as a book, and as a movie.
There are many better dead science-fiction writers that could be worshiped.
What about Frank Herbert? He wrote Dune! Or Arthur C. Clarke?

San Francisco band Swell have been mining slacker rock territory since the late 80s, early 90s. A great great band that so many seem to have overlooked.

The only band I really associate with the slacker label is Dinosaur Jr. Can't remember any of their songs though.
