Although Moby is signed to an English label and his musical career took off in the U.K., he's an all-American guy (born in Harlem), a great-great-great-great nephew of Herman Melville. If Play was his biggest success, the follow-up, 18, was daring in that it veered away from the electronic sound Moby was associated with and towards his more alternative rock roots.
