C&L Late Nite Music Club with John Lennon and Yoko Ono

I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that it's been 26 years since John was taken, far too young.

CBC:

Yoko Ono has placed a full-page ad in the New York Times calling upon the world to mark the anniversary of her husband John Lennon's death as a day of healing for those who have suffered violence or war.

"Know that the physical and mental abuse you have endured will have a lingering effect on our society.... Know that your loss is our loss.... Know that the burden is ours," wrote the 73-year-old artist. "Forgive us."

How heartbreakingly tragic it is that the video for this song could be updated and three decades later, it is still hopeful, it is still true and it is still unfulfilled.

C&L's Late Nite Music Club: Jay McShann RIP

"Jay "Hootie" McShann, a jazz pianist and bandleader who helped refine the blues-tinged Kansas City sound and introduced the world to saxophonist Charlie Parker, died Thursday. He was 90...read on."

I couldn't find any of Jay's music online so I'm posting Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie to honor his passing.

NPR profiles Jay with audio interviews included: "Bluesman Jay McShann--"Hootie" to his friends-- has been a living legacy of Kansas City jazz for over 60 years. As pianist, bandleader, singer, and composer McShann has been an unsung but important figure in jazz history."

C&L Late Nite Music Club with Journey

I'm a little sick of the insulting implication behind the "San Francisco values" meme. As a proud San Franciscan, let me give you our home boys of arena rock. Can't tell you that the fashions of the 70s weren't embarassing as hell though.

C&L Late Nite Music Club with Shawn Colvin

Sunny Came Home from A Few Small Repairs

My understanding is that the song was inspired by this painting by Julie Speed, which was eventually used as the cover art for the CD.

So your mission--if you choose to accept it--is to post music inspired by unusual sources.
