C&L's Late Night Music Club with Bob Dylan

Title: It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)

But even the president of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked.

In its own way, this is a perfect song for Memorial Day. Bob Dylan's "It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" is a seminal anti-war song of the 60s, having spawned so many famous quotes, people have probably forgotten the origin: quotes like "He who is not busy being born is busy dying" and "Money doesn't talk, it swears."

The song appeared on his 1965 album "Bringing It All Back Home."

My favorite comment comes from "The Clothes Song"..
-did you hear the vice-president's gone mad?
-when? last night.
-where? downtown.
-oh, that's too bad.

Thank you, Susie!

Bet you wish you were nicer to Phil Ochs.

few express it better than Bob Dylan.

Too many to pick from now; plus Clev/Orl; game on now...

Such a powerful video. Dylan's music in the background is especially poignant.

And - sadly - just as timely today.

it's really sad...

I'm using the universal we below:
When the hell are we gonna learn? Seriously, when are we going to care about each other at least as much as we care about the latest scandal, or the label to wear, or the car to drive, or anything that we've giving meaning to over the many years we've been on this planet rather than compassionately caring about the least of us?

Truly the sign of a real person is caring about all equally for no reason than we're all in this together.

It was one of the great pleasures of my life to be able to hear the exceptional music of the sixties when it was new and fresh and it meant what it meant.

bob dylan - mr tambourine man (newport 65')

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.

There's no pre-chorus, no lift, no homespun similes, waaaay to many verses, I hear no place for an instrumental break or a bridge. This song ain't gonna cut it in Nashville. The imagery in the lyric is unpleasant and the tempo's way off. The song is over seven minutes long! Zero pop potential. The rock programmers won't spin this for ten seconds. If this act wants to work, he's gonna have to come up with something useful. This song is a mess.

Like the idiot at Decca in 1962 who Brian Epstein 4-man rock groups were old hat.

Genius creates its own audience. Ever thus.

Great tunes tonight :)

Well worth watching if you're a fan, especially for the footage of Cash home movies.
