Andrea Mitchell ask Barney Frank if he will support a bill that will as Mitch McConnell claims, but Medicare by nearly half a trillion dollars and without a public option. Frank rejects McConnell's accessment and says Obama's mistake was trying to get any bipartisan support. He then states something that should be said over and over again.

Frank: Let's just put it this way. If we hadn't waged that foolish, expensive, devastating war in Iraq we could have paid for health care two times over, so I reject the notion that there's no other way to find the funds for health care.

Amen brother.

Ted Kennedy RIP

Digby writes:

One Year Ago Today
It was a privilege to be there.

RIP Teddy.

I was there too. It was awesome and Ted lit up Denver. I just heard historian Michael Beschloss say on MSNBC that when Ted was a boy he knew FDR. He saw it all and was part of so much American history.

Statement from The Kennedy Family:

“Edward M. Kennedy – the husband, father, grandfather, brother and
uncle we loved so deeply – died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis
Port. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous
light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and
perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. We thank everyone
who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who
stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress
toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all. He loved this
country and devoted his life to serving it. He always believed that
our best days were still ahead, but it’s hard to imagine any of them
without him.”

C&L's Late Night Music Club With Frank Zappa

Title: Dinah-Moe Humm
Artist: Frank Zappa

I recently had the pleasure of reuniting with one of my oldest, dearest friends. He was a mentor to me in many ways. He helped expand my mind and showed me new ways to look at life, politics, music, racial issues -- and he introduced me to Frank Zappa. This is one of his FZ favs, and it goes out to him.

If Frank were alive today, imagine the fun he would be having with the likes of Sarah Palin, George Bush and the astrobirthers...

(Vanda and Young - The voodoo they do so well)

Last night I mentioned one of the members of Grapefruit actually being the younger brother of George Young. When Grapefruit dissolved, Young took off for Australia to work with his brother on a new project.

The project became The Marcus Hook Roll Band. You could sort of call this the mid-point between The Easybeats and AC/DC - but definitely a link. The Vanda-Young team were on a roll.

Marcus Hook only last a little over two years (something about bands lasting two years . . ), releasing numerous singles and an album, which finally came out in the States via Capitol in 1974.

This track, issued in 1972 was "Natural Man". It did well in Australia and moderately well in Europe and the UK, but did nothing in the States, as did their album.

It was probably because of that a re-group and reinvention took place and what emerged was the winning combination.

And of course, nobody ever looked back.

Phish celebrates Father's Day with kids in the bathtub

Title: Brother
Artist: Phish

Yesterday was Father's Day, and newly-reunited jam band legends Phish decided that it was more than fitting to celebrate on stage in front of thousands of people.

During "Brother," their opening song at last night's Alpine Valley gig, Phish brought out all of their collective children to sit in a bathtub placed in front of them, referencing the song's main lyric, "Somebody's jumping in the tub with their brother!"

Phish previously pulled this gag during a 1992 tour where all of the band's family, friends and crew jumped in a tub while the song was played.

Phish are currently touring for the first time in five years and play next in Colorado at the Red Rocks Amphitheater on July 30th.

Oasis Takes Five

Title: Supersonic
Artist: Oasis

In this day and age where it's perfectly normal for bands to take years between albums, it's not a lot of news that Oasis won't have another album for five years, but Noel Gallagher does want you to know that he's putting Oasis on hold for a few years to work on his solo albums and because he thinks that his brother Liam is a jerk.

Noel tells Q Magazine that Liam, known for an angelic voice and a terrible personality, hasn't even met Noel's son. "He's rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy. He's the angriest man you'll ever meet. He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup." Looks like Noel has gotten much more clever with words since he wrote "I've got to be myself, I can't be no one else" in Oasis's first song.
