Sonic Youth + Broken Wrist = Canceled Shows

Title: Hey Joni

Unfortunately for us west coasters, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo (in this writer's opinion their best songwriter, FYI) broke his wrist and the band will be canceling shows as a result. The canceled dates:

/25 - Pomona, CA @ Fox Theatre

9/26 - Santa Barbara, CA @ Arlington Theatre

9/28 - San Diego, CA @ House of Blues

9/29 - Los Angeles, CA @ Wiltern Theatre

10/01 - Tempe, AZ @ Marquee Theatre

10/02 - Tucson, AZ @ Rialto Theatre

10/04 - Austin, TX @ Austin City Limits

All but Austin City Limits and Santa Barbara will be rescheduled. New dates:

1/04 - Tucson, AZ @ Rialto Theatre

1/05 - Phoenix, AZ @ Marquee Theatre

1/07 - San Diego, CA @ House of Blues

1/08 - Pomona, CA @ Fox Theatre

1/09 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Wiltern

Hoping for a fast recovery for Lee. A broken wrist is a guitar player's nightmare.

C&L's Late Night Music Club with Sonic Youth

Title: Sacred Trickster

Sonic Youth's new album The Eternal, their sixteenth, came out yesterday. Here's the leadoff track, "Sacred Trickster", from Later... With Jools Holland last month.

Sonic Youth were one of the very first of the indie bands of the 1980s to jump to a major label. DGC signed the band hoping that they would act as a magnet for more credible acts to the label; they attracted a small band from Seattle called Nirvana shortly after. The Eternal marks Sonic Youth's return to the indies -- it's out on the hugely successful Matador Records.

C&L's Late Night Music Club With Lee Ranaldo

Title: Off The Wall
Artist: Lee Ranaldo

I stumbled across Sonic Youth guitarist and co-founder Lee Ranaldo's latest effort, Between The Times And Tides the other day, and I've been hooked ever since. At times both poppy and dark, the songs shine from start to finish and are reminiscent of both REM and Neil Young (and of course, Sonic Youth). I highly recommend that you check it out.

It's day 2 of the 'Seven Days Of Halloween! Here's some creepiness from Sonic Youth.

Title: Expressway to Yr Skull (aka The Crucifixion of Sean Penn aka Madonna, Sean and Me)
Artist: Sonic Youth
Evol
Evol
Artist: Sonic Youth

Call it No Wave, call it harmonious cacophony...Neil Young called this song, from the 1986 album EVOL, "a classic". Who am I to argue with Neal Young, especially when I played it over and over and over back in the day?

What music is in yr skull tonight?

C&L's Late Nite Music Club Honoring Lee Hazelwood

SteveAudio:

RIP Lee Hazelwood:

Songwriter, producer and singer Lee Hazlewood - best known for the No. 1 hit "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" - has died after a long battle with cancer.

The 78-year-old music-industry veteran spent most of his career writing or producing hits for others, while his own records lampooned the business. In fact, Hazlewood became legendary for his independence and for his disdain for the industry - an attitude that earned him the adoration of a later generation of rock musicians that includes Nick Cave and Sonic Youth.

What not everyone knows about Hazlewood is his contribution to guitar rock. He worked with Duane Eddy on several of Eddy's early guitar hits like "Rebel Rouser".  Read on...
