It's bad enough that North Carolina passed a disgusting, discriminatory, hateful bill banning transgendered people from using the restroom of their choice.

To be clear, what they did was ensure that men would use women's bathrooms, and vice versa, so I'm not entirely sure what they thought they accomplished with that. Because in the end, who really gives a damn who's in the stall next door?

But just listen to him go on, lying and lying to Chuck Todd.

It begins with Todd asking him why they passed a bill for the entire state that was intended to counter a local ordinance in Charlotte. Because of course, we couldn't have any city in North Carolina be tolerant of transgendered people.

This state bill was passed during an emergency session called specifically to deal with the very pressing issue of where people urinate and defecate. Here's a brief summary:

The law not only overturns Charlotte’s ban: It also prevents any local governments from passing their own non-discrimination ordinances, mandates that students in the state’s schools use bathrooms corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate, and prevents cities from enacting minimum wages higher than the state’s.

So preventing minimum wage hikes and bathrooms for trans people was the emergency, and they handled it by telling every city and municipality in North Carolina how it was going to be. As Rep. Bishop explains, cities basically have no rights unless the state grants them. So they clarified.

The moment that really caught my attention, though, came after that, when Bishop claimed they had to come into emergency session to handle it because they had received "thousands" of complaints about the bathroom issue.

I'm pretty sure no one cared about the bathroom issue, but I'm betting certain large business owners in North Carolina had plenty of complaints about the possibility of a modest hike in the minimum wage, amirite?
