Hi,
I want to commend commend you and Laurie Anderson on letting us know what the pitfalls are in the binary age and am wondering why you can't break from your NYC shell to address global warming.
I've always thought Warhol was a dark genius but that whole New York scene came across as suicidally and murderously nihilistic compared to (at least the pre-Charles Manson pop image of the) West Coast hippie scene.
Hendrix overrated? No, he was a total original. He got sounds out of his guitar that no-one else has, and while there are many imitators and many who have got down a facet of his playing, no-one else has ever mastered the full Hendrix vocabulary, and probably no-one ever will, because it was intrinsic to his personality.
You're entitled to your beliefs, but I don't share them. Just listen to the heavenly/impossible intro to Little Wing. I still can't believe it's possible to play such a thing to this day. A truer musical genius never lived, IMHO.
I got drunk with Lou Reed one night when he was staying at an L.A. hotel with his then-wife Sylvia. He had a bottle of good Scotch and we got sauced. Lou is a little sarcastic when he gets to drinking, but I took it in stride. I knew I was having drinks with an authentic rock and roll genius. Reed's songs always touched me personally. Just one example, when Loaded came out, I had a significant other who had "Pale Blue Eyes." All of my romantic entanglements were situations that arose "because of the weather." I got to interview the Velvets and John Cale while freelance writing in California. Now, here's an amusing side note: my 29-year-old son, a guitarist and soundtrack composer, just asked me if he could have my vinyl 33 1/3 RPM original issue of Berlin. ;-)

Always one of my favorites, but immagine my dissapointment when I discovered it wasn't his guitar virtuosity as the intro to "sweet jane".

Nonetheless, I'll always like Coney Island Baby.
And one more thing, can't everyone please stop kissing Hendrix's backside. I believe the best description of his playig skills: overated.

Hendrix was a genius and not over rated in my opinion but that Little Wing intro is straight out of Curtis Mayfield.
Sweet Jane.
What is your conceptual, continuity?

I've never really gotten the Lou Reed thing. I'd rather listen to Iggy.
