Title: Sisters (White Christmas soundtrack)
Artist: Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen (dubbed)

Grew up with two sisters, no brothers. At this time of year when White Christmas would come on the tee vee, we'd belt this one out loud and proud.

Lord help the mister, who comes between me and my man.

*The YouTube notes indicate Vera Ellen, a dancer, is not actually singing here, and it's Trudy Stevens's voice you're hearing with Rosemary Clooney's.

They really made great musicals back in the day.

I love those dresses and fans!

Wrong line.

It's "And Lord help the Sister, who comes between me and my man." The "help the man" is the verse before and is "Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister" then "And Lord help the sister, who comes between me and my man"

just picking a nit.
:)

"help the mister that comes between me and my man"???

Who said: "Both French AND gay." :)

"help the mister that comes between me and my man"???

Who said: "Both French AND gay." :)

"help the mister that comes between me and my man"???

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend (as performed by Marilyn Monroe)

It's my fave too, Annaleigh! Marilyn was incredible.

in life. *sigh*

Oh well, at least we have her films to remember her by. :)

No offense but YUCK.

But absolutely NO ONE can belt out a tune like Judy could.

Incomparable.

;)

Judy's version of Singin' in the Rain:

Vera couldn't sing, so they dubbed her with (guess who?).... Rosemary, that's who. Clooney is singing a duet with herself in that clip. I am a big Garland fan, but I just don't remember her ever doing that. Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Great movie but poor Vera Ellen was pretty badly afflicted with anorexia nervosa.

"During the 1950s, she was reputed to have the "smallest waist in Hollywood", and is believed to have suffered from anorexia nervosa. All of her costumes in White Christmas, down to her robe and sleepwear, were designed to cover her neck, which was aged beyond her years due to her eating disorder. She retired from the screen in 1957."

She could really dance though. Great stuff.

Quite an experience ...

'nite again!

Chet was truly one of a kind.

Any discerning sister who loves White Christmas (& who has watched it for 40+ years) knows that the lyrics are:
Lord help the MISTER that comes between me and my sister and
Lord help the SISTER that comes between me and my man!

Must be the gay version. ;)

Thanks for posting it. I just sent this video to my sister. We sing it to each other all the time.

Ditto on the thanks and ditto on the singing it with your sister.

I'll check back in a month or so...

Anything from The Bandwagon

Danny and Bing's little drag show is one of the best parts of the film. You can't show the set-up without the punchline. Please consider posting the companion piece.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YhTKiFEMAg

Fun Fact: Danny wasn't expected to improvise quite so, uh, forcefully nor was Bing supposed to laugh so much. If you watch until the end you can see Bing completely lose it as well as flub the rhythm of the song while Danny follows suit.

Goodnight to all ;)

She became one of my favorite female singers. I don't know if it was booze, cigarettes, age, or a combination thereof, but her contralto warmed over the years and her sensitive interpretation of many great standards was always sensitive and soulful.
