C&L's Late Night Music Club with Bif Naked

Title: We Are The Lucky Ones
Artist: Bif Naked

This is a great song. I love tunes with strings and a strong female lead. It's got that haunted quality to it and a hook that sticks in your head after you hear it. Bif also has another thing going for it. It was featured in Buffy TVS: Season 4, episode 3.

TV shows have certainly helped promote many more artists than ever in the last decade or so and that's a really good thing since musicians need every advantage possible to try and get their craft out there.

For strong female vocals and strings I'll take Rasputina any day:

Two women with cellos, one guy with drums, add some amps and effects pedals and it's pure power and beauty.

The 'string players' don't play play the instruments they are holding. Obviously it is lip synced but from the way they hold their hands it is clear they are not even year one players, and the bowing, oh my, any string player will tell you that.

They are props. The least they could do is hire some real string players, gawd knows there is plenty of them unemployed with the advent of sampled keyboard string patches, which is what you are hearing.

More illusion from the land of illusion.

Art as with beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

That's how music videos are made. They don't shoot a live performance, they play the song on speakers and have the performers sync to it.

Also, Harry Potter doesn't perform real magic in his movies. They use special effects.

Unfortunately instead of calling the musician's contractor they called central casting for models to hold the violins and cellos.

My point is they can't play, not that they aren't playing. I am a violin player and I know instantly by looking at their hands that they can't play.

In movie and broadway soundtracks where they do video of prerecorded music and there is written music to look at, they hire musicians to actually play the parts and sync with the prerecorded music. If they want it to LOOK correct.

They are simulating the original performance.

Here they didn't hire string players to do the original recording (it is a keyboard, or a computer) and they didn't hire string players to PRETEND to be playing the tracks. They hired models, to look good, if you don't notice that they have the hand positions of non players.

JA says he likes the strings, but from standpoint of a string player it is a fraud.

And a completely lame one at that. Are you a guitar player, Stupid Git?

Bif has a great voice and I love strings!

Thanks, John. Nice pick!

Any prestidigitator can tell you that.

Here's some pictures to go with the music: "Honolulu's Neon History". They play their own images.

First The Weakerthans, then Bif Naked!

I am enjoying this :D

...then american.. then Canadian..

but still :D

Pretty cool, eh.

:)

This one is on the BtVS soundtrack CD.

Lots of good music. E.g., Rasputina's Transylvanian Concubine

Good choice, John.

About a year and a half ago, Bif Naked was diagnosed with breast cancer, which (touch wood) has been successfully treated. She found a lump right after returning from her honeymoon.

I've never understood why Bif isn't a bigger star than she is. She's got the image, the tunes (except for a pointless version of Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It")...really she's got the whole package.

Cure cover with strings and vocals:
