C&L's Late Nite Music Club: The 50 State Strategy with Brendan Benson (MI)
Michigan native Brendan Benson has been making compelling and charming power-pop records since 1996's One Mississippi, but for better or worse he's best known as being one half of the singing/songwriting part of The Raconteurs along with better-known Michiganite-by-way-of-Nashville Jack White. "Cold Hands (Warm Heart)" is an adorable song with an adorable video.
Every Monday night, C&L's Late Nite Music Club showcases an act from every state, alphabetically by state, as part of LNMC's 50 State Strategy. Know a band or artist that you think is the best in their state? Email suggestions to latenitemusicclub [at] gmail.com. Next week: Minnesota.

Some U2 and Pet Shop Boys influence in there?
Neat video.
We've been big fans for a loong time. I think he's 'slumming' with JW but whatever gets him some exposure. Brendan was once a good buddy of and co-writer with another off-the-radar songwriter favorite of mine, Jason Falkner.
Lapalco is an album everyone should own. Jason Falkner produced. Brilliant music and GREAT lyrics.
Arty power pop rules.
Good song. How's come this guy isn't famous yet?
He freely admits to some 'issues' in his songwriting that have likely held him back...
Just read the blurb on his MySpace page. He's a Raconteur.
Loved this guy since before One Mississippi. Sitting Pretty was one of those songs that hit you right away. Looking forward to picking up his new album.
don't she look pretty, just sittin' there'
