C&L's Late Nite Music Club: The 50 State Strategy with Built to Spill (ID)
By MaxMarginal Monday May 25, 2009 7:00pmDoug Martsch and Built to Spill, the darlings of Boise. Choosing a song was arduous because there are so many great ones; Big Dipper and Twin Falls come to mind first.
After disbanding the short-lived-yet-loved Treepeople in 1995, Martsch started Built to Spill along with Brett Netson and Ralf Youtz. Despite a number of lineup changes, the band ended up both the most popular and lasting of the 90s slacker-pop groups (though I don't think I'd be saying that if Pavement had stayed together.)
Pour some of your forty-ounce out for Andy Capps, the drummer heard here on 'Car', who passed away three years ago last week.
Every Monday, C&L's Late Nite Music Club will feature an act from every state, alphabetically by state, as part of LNMC's 50 State Strategy. Know a band or artist that you think is the best in their state? Email suggestions to latenitemusicclub [at] gmail.com. Next week: Illinois.

Built to Spill entertains! And Idaho is not far from Alberta!
I like these Monday night LNMCs. The talent in each state is very impressive indeed.
Thanks, Max!
They do a terrific cover of Neil Young's Cortez the Killer, that clocks in at 20 minutes and 30 seconds!

...Late Night Music Club at this blog called Crooks and Liars...The guy who owns the blog, Jhon Amado, is a musician, and he started the feature in late 2005 or early 2006...Should I go on?
I got that, A couple of years ago. I was afraid to come in here.
The bit I was unclear on was the band age. I thought it was new bands. I have no idea Why I inserted 'new' in there. It just showed up. Took a wrong turn.

Got To Give It Up
Personally, I like Pavement more, but Built to Spill is criminally underexposed, underrated, etc. Especially "Perfect from Now On," with its incredibly complex songs.
Caustic Resin was another great Idaho band. They used to share the stage quite frequently with the 'better known' Built To Spill.
Here are they are together:

I love Built to Spill. Favorite band ever.
Keep It Like a Secret is a pop masterpiece. I have yet to meet a person exposed to BTS that did not like them.
