C&L's Late Nite Music Club - The 50 State Strategy with Chris Ardoin (Louisiana)
By MaxMarginal Monday Jul 13, 2009 7:00pmFor Louisiana, I was trying to decide between a contemporary zydeco act and the greatest sludge metal band of all time, and decided to err or the side of regional specialty.
The up-tempo washboard and accordion based zydeco genre has been Louisiana's musical monopoly since the 1950's, and Chris Ardoin is one of the top nouveau zydeco musicians around. He's been playing accordion since he was 2, quite nouveau himself.
I can't find out for the life of me what this song is called, but I like it aplenty.
Every Monday night, C&L's Late Nite Music Club showcases an act from every state, alphabetically by state, as part of LNMC's 50 State Strategy. Know a band or artist that you think is the best in their state? Email suggestions to latenitemusicclub [at] gmail.com. Next week: Maine.

Chris Ardoin is very talented. Zydeco music rocks!
Many of the fine people of Louisiana are descendants of Acadians who were expelled from eastern Canada in the 1700's. Louisiana is rich in history and I'd love to visit sometime.
Thanks, Max!
Just you and me tonite :)
Wanna dance?
:)
for Zydeco, The Zydeco Hellraisers with Dwayne Dopsie (the son of Rockin' Dopsie), with an amazing Washboard player named Alex MacDonald. This is zydeco with some heat to it!
But my vote for Louisiana artist has to go to New Orleans icon Leigh Harris, aka Little Queenie, also part of of Little Queenie and the Percolators from back in the 70's. Her stuff is on iTunes- she can sing rock, New Orleans funk, blues and some amazing jazz. A distinctive, very New Orleans voice.

Max, thanks for posting this! I love Zydeco and this guy's fabulous!!! I'll be looking for him in my music store... There's some great Cajun performers on the soundtrack to "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", featuring solid performances and great Cajun folks.
LOVE IT!!!!
Amédé was, I think, the first recorded zydeco player. back in 1929.
She plays zydeco with fiddle and rocks too!
you tube her or google.
