I own the DVD of "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus," and I also enjoy this song until Yoko comes in sounding like a theramin being drawn across a cat's balls. Notice how the violin player at one point looks over at Yoko in bemusement.
Another great song from the film is Jethro Tull's bluesy "Song For Jeffrey," featuring Black's Sabbath's Tony Iommi on guitar.
It's a playlist, so one click is all it takes. In French, avec subtitles. The story is melodramatic, but it's shot beautifully, and it's a musical that's not a musical.
John was really on top of his game on that one. Keith, Clapton and Mitch Mitchell are/were all top-shelf players, of course, but a lot of people give John scheit for not being a very good guitarist. He kept right up. That's not an easy song to play--4/4 over 3/4 and all.
I really like this one - gives a good idea of how they worked in the studio. John and Paul are having fun with the vocal, Ringo keeps great time, and George kicks ass.
here's something at a complete 90 degree tangent...jane monheit & michael buble doing that old standard, i won't dance, don't make me, over @ skippy (who, by the way, is now twittering!)...
What an incredible read! How ironic that so many of those legendary musicians grew up in high-ranking military families. It's really quite astonishing!
I'll definitely be checking out each installment. Very, very interesting.
I'm making my way through it, just in Part I thus far. But I'm not sure what your hypothesis is, if any. If the hippies stood for anything, rejecting the Establishment and the older generation was at the top of the list. So I'm not surprised that the musical leaders of the hippies grew up in the Establishment (literally, the military-industrial establishment). Perhaps they became leaders because they had the most to reject.
Also, some of your logical leaps unfortunatly detract from the piece. And David Crosby has no talent? At minimum, I think it's fair to say that, when it comes to rock and pop vocal harmonies, Crosby is regarding as one of the best ever.
I just had the Stones Rockin' Circus on the other night, and was thinking Dirty Mac was the best thing on it; until Yoko came on.
A Quick One (While He's Away)
Still my favorite from the film.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.

I hate to admit it but I actually always enjoyed this version better than the original.
