C&L's Late Nite Music Club with The Psychedelic Furs
The film world suffered a tragic loss with the passing of John Hughes earlier today, and I'd argue that the music world did as well. So many great songs of the eighties are inextricably linked to his films; "Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds" (The Breakfast Club), "True" by Spandau Ballet (Sixteen Candles), and even that "Oh Yeah" song in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
It was hard to pick one to feature, but the title song of the Hughes-penned Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs wins out for me.
Thanks for the films, John, and thanks for the music.

and thanks.

Hughes was only 59 years old. That is way too young to die.
He certainly made some wonderful films in his lifetime. RIP, John Hughes.
at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. My friend's sister went home with one of the guys in the band and contracted syphylis. It was a good show, though. Too bad about John Hughes. I met him at a screening of Sixteen Candles. He was shy, but nice.
I guess y'all heard John Hughes died.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
John Hughes made so many memorable films and brought so many cool bands into 'sort of' mainstream status. Pretty ahead of his time, really. I'll remember him most for The Breakfast Club. My brothers and I had a VHS copy that we played in our teens, so much it drove my mother crazy. Even she has the dialogue memorized.
...predates the movie by about five years. It's from their 2nd (and IMO their best) LP, "Talk Talk Talk". I believe the soundtrack version was re-mixed, and may have even had a few new tracks dubbed in, if memory serves.
Pretty In Pink is going to be followed by Adam Ant on a cassette I picked up at the Record Bar on Brady Street.
