Paul's Boutique was a landmark album for the Beastie Boys, cementing their transition to hip hop from their punk roots, even if it wasn't initially a commercial success. The fourth track off the album, "Egg Man", not only showcases their clever lyricism, but also their creative use of samples. My personal favorite sample in this tune is the theme used in the shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, as it completely recontextualizes a pretty horrifying theme into an otherwise humorous setting. While it is unlikely that we'll see any new releases by the Beastie Boys, Mike D and Ad-Rock have not completely ruled out the idea, despite Adam Yauch's unfortunate passing last year. So for fans of the group, there is still hope for some new material, but it is unlikely that it will be put out under the Beastie Boys name.

Any favorite uses of samples?
