Erik Satie was known for his virtuosic piano skill, but what made him unique was his penchant for composing sardonic pieces. This one comes to us in three movements, each using music to describe a different one of the titular Embryons Desseches (dessicated embryos, referring to those of sea creatures in particular). However, this piece has a satirical element, parodying many stylistic aspects of the Romantic movement, especially those that had become cliches.
