Tonight is a night lots and lots of people wait for in this town. One of the oldest longest running taverns in my downtown gets all it's Christmas lights up.

That is just one part of what the people wait for though. The other part is the most important. They break out like eight tough, old and sturdy KitchenAid mixers that will run pretty much non-stop until New Year's Eve.

Why are they running and why so many? Well, they've gotta be whipping up eggs to make a custard like froth that is imperative to the other part of the tradition, a Tom and Jerry.

The Tom & Jerry hit its peak during the Eisenhower years and has faded away as far as weird and fancy cocktails are concerned. The Brass Rail in Port Huron,Michigan is one of the last places in the country that does them the traditional way...and they only do them during the winter holiday season. You'll see both ninety year old ladies and kids that just turned 21 all in there ordering one up. It's a rite of passage and then becomes part of the holiday routine if in town after that.

I'm gonna go see the (Christmas) party lights some time this weekend.

What are you listening to tonight?
