"I don't understand how these documents ended up where they are. I don't understand how he was permitted to take them, even to the residence, let alone to a country club in Florida," she said yesterday.

Hillary Clinton appeared on The View yesterday to plug her new series, "Gutsy Women," but of course the topic of Trump's Mar-A-Lago documents came up."

"So the FBI seized more than 11,000 documents from Mar-A-Lago. It's 11,000 that we know of right now. 325 of the documents retrieved since Trump left office were marked classified. There were also 40-something odd folders that were empty that were also marked classified. What was your hot take when you heard about this?" co-host Sunny Hostin asked.

Clinton said it should be taken very seriously.

"It shouldn't be partisan," she said.

"It should concern every American because those documents and the empty folders as they were marked suggest that there was really important secret information that is essential to our country's defense and security, and when the report came out yesterday that the documents also included information about we don't know which, an ally or an adversary's nuclear program, I cannot tell you how terrifying that is, and Alyssa, you know because you were at the Defense Department.

"There were times when I was secretary of state that literally a military courier would come into my office. It would be an emergency. There wouldn't be time to get to the White House and have an emergency meeting in a SCIF, and a man walked in, and he would have, like, a briefcase locked to his wrist.

"And he would come into my office and he would say, 'You have to look at this immediately, Secretary.' He would unlock the briefcase. He would stand there. He would give me this document that had really delicate, secret information about something of importance. I would read it. Then I would sign that I read it. It would go back into the locked box attached to his wrist and off he would go," she said.

"So I don't understand how these documents ended up where they are. I don't understand how he was permitted to take them, even to the residence, let alone to a country club in Florida. I don't understand it."

"Where was the guy with the lock box and the handcuffs?"

Clinton said that's what she was asking. She said we don't yet know what was in the documents.

"We're getting little dribs and drabs like the nuclear posture of an ally or an adversary, but I do -- I mean, people literally die to get our government information. They go to prison. They get exiled. It's dangerous oftentimes, and the idea that this would have been done, I hope everybody takes really seriously."

She said it was not like an overdue library book.

"I was at a party with lawyers and people who are very smart and connected to government and everything else," Joy Behar said.

"I took a poll and said, 'How many do you think Trump will be indicted? Half of them thought he would not. That he would get away with it. What is your feeling about it?"

Clinton said as someone who'd been prejudged, she wanted to know about the facts and evidence.

"What the FBI and the intelligence community learn about these documents, how they ended up there, who else saw them. Because apparently they have been moved around. It's not like they were in a vault. They were in a storage room where people go in and out, getting umbrellas for the pool or, you know, something else. So I think that we have to have, I think, two minds about this. No one is above the law. But we should take it seriously. We should be concerned about it."

Clinton is a civilized person who values rules and procedures, so naturally this is baffling to her. The fact is, Trump is a reckless bully who simply ignores rules and does what he wants. He simply took the documents and ignored anyone who told him he wasn't supposed to take them.

This isn't me jumping to conclusions, by the way. This is how his disregard for classified documents was described by the people who worked for him.
