Republican Election Official Brags About How Well They Suppressed Voters

Robert Spindell is a one-man election wrecking crew.

Spindell is a member of the Wisconsin Election Commission, the body created by the Republicans to ensure that elections are fair and legal and that all campaign laws are followed. However, Spindell is also a Republican Party official. He is chair for the Republican Party in the Fourth Congressional District, which covers most of Milwaukee.

While the conflict of interest is glaring, it is legal in Wisconsin and it's the way the Republicans wanted it. Unfortunately, that's not all. Spindell is a full-blown MAGA election-denier. He spoke at a "Stop the Steal" rally where political violence was promoted. To make sure we all knew what a scumbag he is, Spindell was also one of the ten fake electors trying to claim Trump won.

Spindell's chicanery, however, only garnished a few complaints, which were easily dismissed by the Republicans.

Now, it has come out that Spindell sent an email to his fellow Republicans in the Fourth District boasting and congratulating them on their successful voter suppression schemes:

Spindell, who is white, says in the email that Republicans “can be especially proud of the City of Milwaukee (80.2% Dem Vote) casting 37,000 less votes than cast in the 2018 election with the major reduction happening in the overwhelming Black and Hispanic areas.”

“The Democratic candidates were unable to obtain — even though they really tried hard — the votes they needed, expected and demanded from the Black Community,” Spindell wrote. “There is still a great deal of much more concentrated work we need to do in the Black and Hispanic Communities by continuing to show how the Democratic Elected Officials and Candidates are not watching out for the livelihoods of the people who live in these areas and the Republicans can.”

This time, Spindell won't find it as easy to ride things out. He's already facing three different lawsuits related to his being a fake elector. His recent email is drawing a groundswell of attention and increased calls for his resignation:

“He’s proudly telling Hispanic and Latino voters, ‘I’m your enemy, and I’m actively using my position of power to undermine your voting rights,’” said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, executive director of Voces de la Frontera, an advocacy group for immigrants.

Robert Spindell, the election commissioner who also served as a fake Republican elector for former President Donald Trump, did not back down. He rejected calls from liberals and a fellow Democratic commissioner to resign, and said he does not support suppressing turnout.

Oh, and not coincidentally, the amount of votes suppressed were by far greater than the number of votes that Mandela Barnes needed to beat Ron Johnson in the midterm election.

Suddenly, the Republicans don't want to talk about election fraud as much as they used to.
