C&L's Late Night Music Club With Devo

This Devo two-fer from 1980 is a hoot! Girl U Want is by far the strongest of the two songs, Devo at their best. Please forgive the video quality and the occasional audio glitch.

I always felt that Devo was more influential than they really got credit for. They have been honored by plenty of bands -- Nirvana, Soundgarden, Sepultura and Pearl Jam, just to name a few.

at Kent State University in the Art Department. They were cutting edge then, too.

yeah. they called themselves chinese computer rock or some such devo lingo.

ask your dad about marks rubber stamp store in akron.

postcards. My dad was Toby A. Nounced. LOL

It is easy to forget how mind-blowingly different they were in 1980. I caught alot of crap in junior high for being a DEVO fan. They still rock!

*blank stares* from classmates in Jr High back in the day as they adjusted their RUSH t-shirts

Truly, a blast from the past!

I always loved their music and those crazy flower-pot hats!

If so another cool show from back in the day

And the guy announcing at the very beginning of the clip is Jack Burns, who was George Carlin's comedy partner at one time.

snl very rarely put on punk or new wave bands...but friday's did

the comedy was lame...the music was great

I was blown away! Yellow jumpsuits, I Can't Get Me No... We Are Devo.

to these guys; Girl U Want is industry-light....
-Or at least to my ear.

robbed.

By about 4pm my time, 1pm out there, right? 3pm in Green Bay.

Good Luck bud. It's going to come down to the last 2 minutes.:-)

And

Mr DNA/Mr. Kamakazi.
And that is how I got my Halo name.

These guys are one of those bands that sounds just as modern today as they did back in the 80s... I don't know, they just always seemed years ahead of their time to me...

..they're members of The Church of the Subgenius!

DEVO - Pink Pussycat(Live)

I saw these guys live a time or two...great shows.

one of my faves, for some reason...

Devo - Pink Pussycat (Demo)

I haven't heard that one in sooooooooo loooooooong.
Kinda makes me feel kinda Sloppy.

Love 'em both.

DEVO - Secret Agent Man

JOHNNY RIVERS - Secret Agent Man 1966

I like 'em both...

but it's Johnny Rivers for the win, miss_kitty!

Secret Agent Man 1966 is a classic!

was better than that piece of shite prisoner that amc put on

so the video must have been "Friday"

Remember Burns and Schrieber?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gCCKlCsKrU

Friday and there are a number of performances (in better shape) out there from that appearance.

Are we not men? We are Devo! D-E-V-O! These guys still rock! And Mothersbaugh's music for "Rugrats" was fantastic!

His music for The Sims 2 wasn't too shabby either.

DEVO - Whip It + Uncontrollable Urge

Euww something attempting to be comedy in there. Fridays sucked worse than SNL does right now....

We Are Devo......

Whip it good! hehe

The hour is late ... goodnight all!

during the 80s, stating that man was devolving seemed to be a great joke

now look around

especially at pop culture and music

christ, every other movie or tv show is a remake...and the original usually comes out as superior

and everyday this blog and others points out the devolving masses that surround us

think a sarah palin would get thousands to buy her book or even admire her had she shown up during the 80s?

we are doomed

Came across one of their rare live albums on usenet a decade ago, they could really rock it.

DEVO!

Of course I liked The Tubes too. So what do I know?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP8nGNbk7oQ

both the tubes and devo are art bands...just at different ends of the musical spectrum

and both are still going and rock harder than any of the kids currently on the block

You might say I've been Jerkin Back and Forth!
Nite folks. Be Well.

No body ever said, Life was free.
Sink, Swim, Go down with the Ship.
Use your Freedom Of Choice. I say it again, in the Land of the Free.
Use your Freedom of Choice.

One of my all time favorites. Be happy or not, spuds!

I was fortunate enough to see Devo in concert at the very beginning of their rise to popularity. I regret though to not having purchased the available merchandise on sale at the venue . . . the red "energy dome" hat and yellow "radiation suit."

Lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh is now a movie and TV music composer. Bass player Gerald Casale has a band called Jihad Jerry and the Evildoers.

Although some people assumed Devo to be gimmicky, they were anything but. They're as good as any musicians you'll ever see.

the comic book like advert found on the record sleeve selling all of the cool devo gear

Can't help but sing along

Maybe another early New Wave band from Japan, Yellow Magic Orchestra - Behind the Mask
