C&L's Late Night Music Club With Todd Rundgren
Ok, so I was feeling a little melancholy this evening. Sue me. I wanted to post something that took me back to a certain place in time and this version of "Hello It's Me" from 1973 fit the bill.
Todd Rundgren is a unique and underrated artist. His work with Nazz and Utopia was good, but I always preferred his solo work. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music, but have found myself in a 70's, mellow mode as of late. Maybe it's the holidays?
Rocking the house over at our sister site Newstalgia this weekend are

He also wrote one of the greatest accapella songs of all time 'Mighty Love'
"Mighty Love" is a great song, but Todd didn't write it. The Spinners' version is one of Thom Bell's greatest arrangements.
Love Todd though. "Hermit of Mink Hollow," "Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren," and "Faithful" especially!
the full Peter Gabriel costuming and make up at that time. Ah the good old days!
Hasa Diga Eebowai
a lot of production work too.
Be as you wish to seem
It would be interesting to know how much he made just from Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell."
That's how much he made.
He still takes drummer Prairie Prince wherever he goes. And remember Todd every summer playing at the Philadelphia Zoo.
these tunes used to fly out of the AM radio back in Jr high... loveit!

I always loved that song, even tho it was considered a little too pop ...
So strange, cause I just worked up an acoustic version of it for my little 4 piece group ...

Brian Setzer "Sleepwalk"
One of my all time faves...
Yes that Setzer clip is amazing, I actually had posted it a few weeks ago when someone was slagging him for being a no talent or something ... the live versions of Sleepwalk with the whole BS Orchestra are great but the solo version really shines.

Ok since we are on the subject ... Paul McCartney was here in July and Mull of Kintyre was AWESOME!
He brought out the 78th Highlanders from the Halifax Citadel. They marched down the hill beside me ... 60,000 people LOST IT!

That gave me goosebumps!
Paul McCartney and the 78th Highlanders performing together is truly special. I wish I could've been there to see it in person.
Thanks, earl :)
they had lots of cameras onsite so I'm hoping there is a DVD in the works ... it would be perfect and I'm not a huge McCartney fan...
So Ms C., what is your musical choice for the evening?

I've always liked this song:

That is the greatest. It really is to me. Stan Getz's sax ... did you know Astrid did not even speak english? ...she learned it phonetically? and Jobim was the greatest ... so ...how about the legacy ...
Bebel Gilberto?
... the coolest music ever!

Don't feel bad Logan, I felt the need to post Bob Dylan's "Memphis Blues Again" on my FB. Some stuff just never gets old and this Todd Rundgren song is one of my favorites. Think I'll listen to it again. Thanks.

Beautiful song. Makes me cry.
Thanks for that! Todd was, and still is, very underrated.
Gotta love the glam! Bowie, Gabriel, Argent, they all had it.
Damn! "The good old days," indeed!

Going through Rundgren's stuff on YouTube, it's striking how much heartbreak there is in his songs. Powerful, sad stuff.
Years ago I was an avid fan of David Sanborn's TV show, Night Music. I saw Rundgren on one night, singing this song, and never forgot it:
Parallel Lines

Went out the next day an bought Todd's Nearly Human Album. A real masterpiece.
I'm not into the fan-idolatry thing but I know great artistry when I hear it. And I'll support it with my hard earned bucks.
Thank you, Annoyed Canuck!
by any stretch as I remember it either.
