C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Frida
By MaxMarginal Thursday Sep 10, 2009 7:30pm"I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida, aka Ani-Frid Lyngstad of ABBA, is an intense slab of righteous relationship paranoia. The drums and the background vocals, both provided by Phil Collins (operating firmly in "In The Air Tonight"/"Take Me Home" mode) keep this song's tightrope near the snapping point from start to finish. This was the most successful non-ABBA song from any of the four Swedes. One listen and it's clear why.

this is freda Pay no attention to the phony stage name.
This is the only song I could find on the nets of hers.
I likey very much, m_k!
she was my BFF throughout highschool, my twenties and 30s, but she was a total sociopath. I didn't realise it. I still have people come up to me and tell me some of the awful crap she used to say about me. I was totally clueless, then figured it out, and was in the process of getting her gone from my life when she dropped dead. The only time she did something nice for me.
Some of her other work is really good I like Night Owl, and haven't heard it in years. They were on some soundtrack, I can't find it.
That sucks.
Oh well, don't feel bad. It happens to us all at some point. C'est la vie, I guess!
assault of the killer bimbos. Somehow, it's appropriate.
Yeah, it was only 25 years of lying and time wasting before I caught on. I don't feel too stupid about it any more. She had many people fooled -- just about everyone.
I think I've heard it before.....maybe....
This song takes me back. I was about 15 and living in Manhattan beach, Los Angeles two blocks from the ocean. Great choice.
I don't know how they did that crazy Autotune™ vocoder effect with the voice, but it was pretty intense back in the 80s...
W
because only benny and bjorn get the credit. what about the women of ABBA? what about anna and frida?
but seriously, just i was beginning to stop hating ABBA, this production just sounded too schlocky for me to warm up to her.
ABBA is the acronym for Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid.
Bjorn and Benny get most of the credit because they wrote every song that ABBA recorded and produced most of the albums.
I know much more about ABBA than I should.
sometimes too much knowledge can be a bad thing
have you ever hiked the ABBA-lation Trail? I hear it's a lotta fun!
;)
No...But I work with a woman from Argentina now. Does that count?
Perhaps!
;)
I am truly frightening in my ability to retain absolutely insignificant bits of data about people I will never meet.
In the case of Frida, she is actually a fascinating person. Her mother was 16 years old at the time of her birth and apparently very beautiful. She was held by German soldiers (and raped) for her genes. Frida was supposed to be an example of the perfect Nazi stock. However, Frida was secreted away by her grandparents and crossed the border to Sweden. Her mother died before she could join them.
After her marriage to Benny was over, Frida married an obscure Swedish prince, who has since died, and holds a royal title.
And don't get me started on the other three. I was actually living in Sweden when ABBA won the Eurovision contest. You couldn't take two steps out of your home without being bombarded with ABBA.
Even still, I gotta admit that I love them. That music just infected my childhood and is part of my genes. I listen to them when I need to get happy.
Sweden is a beautiful country.
Wow, I hadn't heard about Frida and her family's tragic history with the Nazi's.
What an incredible story.
you know all about "Chess: The Musical?"
I've never been much of an ABBA fan, but this song is A-OK!
and I fell in love with their thin reedy sound.
Take A Chance On Me
This one has a lot of low end. Maybe that's why it was the only song of theirs I liked when it was contemporary.
it was the title of an hour long episode of Rik Mayall presents. If you ever get a chance to see any of the 3 episodes, it is worth it. Rik Mayall is a genius.
Dancing Queen
My favorite post-ABBA song along with "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head written by Benny and Bjorn
Dirt
Just because....I can.
That was yummy.
Someone else posted all of The Stooges stuff in the past only to have the audio muted by WMG. Teh suxxor.
aka, 'Skunk at a picnic'.
Tell Me Something Good
I Gotcha
Ballero
Must watch vid of the Soul Train Line in the '70's!
That was priceless!
Not demanding that my parents let me take piano lessons, and not learning how to dance that well.
My sister and I took piano lessons when I was six and she was nine. One day, she got so frustrated with our teacher that she told her off and stormed out, never to return. It was one of the best things I've ever seen and I'll remember it always!
Anyway, I continued on for another year or so with my lessons and I'm glad I did. Being able to read music and play piano (badly) is a wonderful thing!
Flashlight
You Haven't Done Nothin'
Richard Nixon was good for exactly one thing: Inspiring Stevie to write this song!
I loved this song when it came out. And it reminds me that my mom didn't used to be a Fox News watching drone. She is the one who told me that this song was written for Nixon...it was her album I used to listen to it on. One of Stevie's best efforts, this album.
: )
Thanks Andy.
The write-up here is incorrect. This is not the most successful song for a post-Abba member. "I Know There's Something Going On" hit #13 on Billboard's singles chart while "One Night in Bangkok" hit #1.
This is certainly the most successful post-ABBA record in the USA, but I'm not positive that Agnetha Fältskog didn't outsell her overall. She's had some very successful solo records in Europe.
As for Frida, the death of her husband from lymphoma isn't the only personal heartache she's experienced, as his death was preceded by a year by the death of her daughter in a car accident.
And yes, my name is Jazzmaniac, and I am an ABBAholic.
