C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Morphine
By Stella Barkwell Sunday Aug 30, 2009 7:00pmBuena Live - Transmusicales Rennes - December 1993
Morphine had a unique sound based on several factors. Their front man, Mark Sandman was a major part of that. He had a great voice and sense of phrasing, and played a two string bass (check out the close up of the bass neck and head at the beginning of Honey White). Another part of the sound was the baritone saxophone that Dana Colley played. He also played the bass saxophone, and sometime went Rahsaan Roland Kirk on everyone and played two saxophones at a time.
Morphine immediately ceased to be after Sandman collapsed and died of a heart attack at the age of 46, on stage in Italy on 3 July 1999.
Some bands choose to soldier on after a key member departs. Which one of your favorite bands broke up following a member's departure?

Little Man With A Gun In His Hand
After singer/guitarist D. Boon died in a car accident in '85, bassist Mike Watt and George Hurley went on to form fIREHOSE with Ed Crawford. but they didn't play any Minutemen songs. At least not during the shows I saw, or any of which I've heard.
Loved fIREHOSE. I saw them play the Green Door in o.c. in the late 80's to about 40 people and they rocked like hell. Still one of my favorite shows. George Hurley a very underrated drummer too.
Watt and Hurley reunite once in a while to play Minutemen tunes.

Thanks. I really enjoyed that.
In answer to your question, The Doors. They were never the same without Jim.
Misty Mountain Hop
He was so in the background, and to this day many people don't realize that after he died they stopped being a band.
I used to blame Audioslave for this. It's probably for the best that Soundgarden reunion efforts haven't worked out.
It wasn't fair on the Veca Electric guy who found you a few days later.
nirvana - smells like teen spirit
...it didn't smell like teen spirit to that utility worker.
driving past all those cop cars either. I nearly did my usual 30-in-a-10 mph around that island, but saw one just in time...
else pick up songs from movie sountracks , my ear is always on and soundtracks have led me down some amazing trails , this is the only drawback of not watching Tee Vee or listening to radio personalities ( that term cracks me up ) or radio period .
Nice trio , their tight .
Tarantino and Wes Anderson films usually have great soundtracks. The Boogie Nights soundtrack is pretty good (though maybe too much disco for most people), and the Election soundtrack got me into April March long before Tarantino's Death Proof.
As for TV- you know, some shows use some pretty damned good music. Homicide: Life On The Streets and Crossing Jordan usually used something interesting during each program.
Little Green Bag
Making Time
Driver's Seat
This is included in the film Boogie Nights, but it doesn't appear on the soundtrack album.
Laisse Tomber les Filles
Sugar
Kinda reminds me of The Go-Go's and The Bangles music.
Play it to the bone , there is a female artist Jacintha she has two songs , the first one is the opening song .
The lost city , has at least a dozen classics .
Intaco , there is one song " i could of loved you more " .
The Honeydripper
Idlewild
Gladiator
XXX , theres is a scene with BOND ( smoking )
I look for those songs that few get to hear , and many should .
that's going to play mopey self-indulgent crap, ad it's going to be called "DEMEROL". Because we all know Demerol is better than Morphine.
Just for the record, he played a THREE-string bass. However, he would more than occasionally break one of the strings (of the handful of times I saw Morphine live, this happened twice), leaving him with two strings.
of course Ian Curtis quit WAY more than just the band.
Dirty Fcuking Hippys aka 'The Dirty Fcuking Hippies were Right'
60 years of being ignored, the end results are all around us.
I dare the TV to play this at peak time.
You've got it two different ways in the post...
Joe King Carrasco
Queen is a group that should have stayed gone after Freddie Mercury died. It could never have been "Queen" without him.
Having said that, I wish Brian May and Roger Taylor had carried on (with or without John Deacon) as Smile. That was the name of May and Taylor's band before Queen, something most Queen fans would have been quite familiar with.
Andrew (L'Andrew) Wood and Mother Love Bone were set to be the Seattle band that defined the Seattle sound with a major push from the record label.Andrew Wood called it "Love Rock".After his death Nirvana became the band that defined Seattle, and Mother Love Bone became Pearl Jam.
Members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam recorded as "Tenple of the Dog" in a tribute to Andrew.I always wonder what the 90's would have sounded like if Andrew had never died.He will always be my favorite singer.
R.I.P. L'Andrew
